Opposing Viewpoints Database Use
Tips for Success
Be Flexible and Allow Time to Explore
Research takes time and patience. Plan accordingly so that you are not searching at the last minute.
Using the Opposing Viewpoints Database
Search for sources 3 ways: enter a topic in the search box, click "Browse Issues," or choose from categories at the bottom.
Clicking "Browse Issues" will offer an A to Z list of topics and issues.
After selecting an issue or topic, results can be narrowed by source, searches can be made within the results, and Related Topics can be chosen.
If more resources are desired, an advanced search can be conducted.
Search terms can be entered, and the drop down box can be changed to "keyword."
Again, results can be narrowed through filters in the margin. For example: by source, by topic, by a specific search term entered in the search box.
Once an article has been chosen, the citation can be accessed by clicking the "Citation Tools" link in the margin. Other similar articles can be accessed under "Related Subjects."
Useful articles can be saved in "My Folder" by clicking the "Save" button to the left of the article in the results list. My Folder can be found by clicking the "More" button in the tool bar at the top, then "My Folder."
"My Folder" contents can be copied and pasted into a Google Doc for use in the future.
