What's going on in first grade?

Hi Families,

Congratulations! Your child has now officially completed 12 days of first grade! Woo hoo! The next 172 days is going to be a cake walk! :)

This week we spent a great deal of time working on routines and procedures. We even had a fire drill! Your children did great. We will continue to slowly ease them into the more rigorous routine. Please remember to make sure that your child gets sufficient sleep. Please remember to send in a small snack to help him/her get through the day.

I am almost done level testing your children. I have enjoyed hearing them all read. Starting the week of the 25th your child will be bringing home a leveled book bag with instructions for reading every night. This will be in addition to the other HW assignments that they have each week.

Please continue to check and empty out the green folder every night.

Gym is on Tuesdays. Please remember to send your child in sneakers.

I am really liking the ability to send and receive quick texts with you. If you haven't already signed up to receive my texts simply text @mrswongsf to 81010.

Enjoy your weekend!

Spelling Tests

In first grade the weekly "spelling test" takes on a very unique look. Instead of traditional paper and pencil, we took advantage of the beautiful day and wrote our spelling words with chalk on the blacktop. Please do not look for traditional tests each week. There will be some, but we will also use a variety of methods throughout the school year including word processing on the desktops, writing them in sentences, creating games, and writing using white boards and shaving cream.
