Dear Edison Families,
What is Gratitude?
Why We Practice Gratitude
How to Teach Gratitude?
GRATITUDE JOURNALS
Journaling can be a helpful tool in practicing daily gratitude. No matter the time of day that they write in their journal, this time of reflection can be quite powerful. Whether your child can think of one thing or a list of things that that they feel grateful for each day, the act of writing it alone can make quite a difference. This period of reflection is powerful and helps give perspective on their day, highlighting positive things they have or have experienced, that might feel rather mundane or just "normal." Highlighting something each day can help reframe their perspective, helping them see things in a more positive light.
Another benefit to journaling is that it puts your child on the lookout for things to be grateful for throughout the day. When one focuses on the good, they tend to notice more of it!
GREAT GRATITUDE CONVERSATION STARTERS!
- Who is someone you could say “thank you” to today? And why?
- What is something you do with a parent or family member that makes you happy?
- If you had to give anyone in the world your piggy bank, who would you give it to and why?
- If you had to leave your house for a long time, what three things would you grab on your way out?
- What is the first birthday or holiday that you remember and what do you remember?
- What is something you’d like someone to tell YOU “thank you” for?
- How can you be thankful even when we’re upset?
- When is a good time to tell someone “thank you”?
- How does it make you feel when someone does something really nice for you?
- How does it make you feel when you do something really nice for someone else?
