Week One is in the books!

What an amazing first week of school! Our first through fourth graders jumped back into the school routine with great success. It was wonderful to see students back in the building enjoying seeing new classrooms, meeting new teachers, and finding new friends! I had the opportunity to join many classrooms this week and share a special read aloud. I've got a few more classrooms to go, as well as, our Kindergartners to read to... but we have some truly amazing students at GRE! On behalf of all of our staff, we want to thank YOU for sharing your amazing children with us.

As we turn to the week ahead we are excited to welcome our kindergartners who will join us on Monday. With the rest of our school family joining us this week, please make sure you are extra diligent if utilizing the drop off/pick up line. As a reminder, students should exit on the curb side only of cars that are dropping off. Additionally, there is no passing in the drop off/pick up line. This allows our staff to make sure that all students exit cars safely.

A quick note about visitors joining us for lunch. We love to see family visiting their child(ren) for lunch. If you are able to join us, please make sure that you only share food items with your own child. We take our responsibility to keep our students safe very seriously and that includes monitoring for food allergies during the lunch period. Additionally, we are happy to help capture your favorite lunch moment with a picture, but please make sure you only include yourself and your child since some of our students' families have asked the school not to take or publish photos. Thank you for helping us keep all our students safe at lunch!

Here's to a great week!

A special note to our Kindergarten Families

Sending your child to Kindergarten can be an exciting and emotional event. We are so excited to welcome them to General Rosecrans Elementary and will take great care to make sure they enjoy every second of their first day. We do need a little help from you to give students a smooth start. Tomorrow morning we will collect all of our new Kindergartners outside the main entry way. Our amazing Kindergarten teachers will be lined up and the rest of our staff will be helping our students get in the right line with their teachers. After you give them a big hug, please help us by returning to your car so that we can have all students enter the building on their own with their new class. There may be a few tears but we have learned that it is much harder on a student when their parent walks them into the classroom. Please help us support our newest students by learning that school is an exciting place to be-we will take great care of them!
