BECAUSE OF A TEACHER.......
It is almost winter holidays for our staff here at Pontiac. At this time of year, it can be extremely stressful as kids minds are often other places, sometimes positive, and sometimes negative, but usually not in the classroom. It can be easy to “check out” yet great teachers all over the world do so much to capture the attention of their students when it is so hard to do so.
You may feel exhausted and, especially now, underappreciated. At the end of any stretch of work I have had as an educator, I tend to get sick because when you work in education, many educators somehow find a way to hold off being sick until they have some time away from the classroom. Being sick is not a luxury many teachers take until they have time to do so. I wish it weren’t the truth but often planning to be away is a lot harder than being present.
(As an aside, if you need a day, take a day. Kids need you to be as healthy as possible, mentally and physically.)
I just want to say “thank you” as you go through the next crazy final week before the break, but John Spencer does a much better “thank you” in this video. Take time to watch it and know that even though you don’t hear it enough, you are appreciated.
Merry Christmas, my friends! I am honored and thankful to work with each of you each day!
HOLIDAY SHUT DOWN REMINDERS
Please help us prepare for the winter holiday break by doing the following:
- Unplug all lamps, fridges, and other classroom equipment
- CLEAN OUT fridges in workrooms and lounge
- Take down all holiday displays including veterans day and Christmas both inside and outside of the classroom
- Ensure all classroom windows are locked.
- Take home any items of value from your classroom
POLAR EXPRESS - It's a privilege!
8:30am Chorus show in the cafeteria will be performed for:
Primary Montessori, Child Development, K, 1, 2
9:15am Chorus show in the cafeteria will be performed for:
Lower Montessori, 3, 4, 5 and Upper Montessori
The Polar Express will be played on VBRICK beginning at 1:00pm. However, if students are demonstrating a pattern of inappropriate behavior, please use your judgement regarding whether or not the student can participate in the movie in the afternoon.
It would be ideal if each grade level decided upon one classroom teacher that would keep the students that need to continue working rather than view the Polar Express. If you need assistance with this coverage, please let me know.
What we do ask: If you are withholding the privilege of the student viewing the movie, PLEASE MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PARENT IN ADVANCE to notify them of your decision and reasons why you have made the decision to do so.
We hope this day is a fun, holiday-filled day for everyone.........in our pajamas, too!
PEER TUTORS!
Heather Alexander is sponsoring the peer tutors and she has an eager group of 5th grade students that are prepared to tutor struggling students in younger grades. If you have a student or a pair of students that need some extra help in an academic area, please let me know. These bright young students have demonstrated their ability and have expressed an interest in helping others be successful.
If you do need help, please indicate if mornings before the start of school or afternoons during buses would be best for you and the students(s).
Thanks! These 5th grade students are looking so forward to helping those in need!!
