Calendar changes; no school May 28
With the return to full-time, five-day weeks for students, the Klamath County School District has made needed adjustments to the 2020-21 school year calendar.
Here is what you need to know:
- No late starts: There will be no Wednesday late starts for the remainder of the school year to minimize disruptions to student schedules.
- Friday, May 28: No school for students. District teachers will use that day for professional development in lieu of the usual late start days. Since September, contracted professional development time had been moved from Wednesday mornings to Fridays, which was a distance-learning day for students. This was done to better accommodate student schedules during hybrid and distance learning. With the return to full-time, the district and Klamath County Education Association decided to combine the remaining late-start professional development hours into one day as to not change schedules for students.
For Bonanza Junior/Senior High, Mazama High, and Henley High only: Bonanza, Mazama, and Henley high schools have shifted two days in their school calendars. These changes align the schools with other school calendars in the district.
- April 30: No school for students. This is now a no-school day for students and a grade preparation/professional development day for teachers.
- May 14: School day for students. This now a school day for students. It previously was scheduled as a grade preparation/professional development day.
These schedule changes allow the district to offer needed professional development time to our teachers and fulfill our contracts. It has been an unusual year, and we appreciate the ongoing support and efforts of our families, teachers, and staff.
