What We're Learning in Third Grade:
Reading - We are working on understanding characters and how they contribute to the story while also relating them to us as the reader. (window vs. mirror characters, major vs. minor characters).
Writing - We are building our own characters and writing about them in detail (inner traits, outer traits, what motivates them, etc.).
Social Studies - We are studying communities, community helpers and how the government contributes to our community.
Important Upcoming Events:
- Friday, September 16th - Picture Day (You must pre-pay for these pictures. Forms and package options were sent home a little over a week ago).
- Thursday, September 22nd - Jelly Beans Night!
- Thursday, September 29th - Progress Reports go home!
Homework and Missing Work Information:
Homework:
Homework is being sent home on Monday afternoons and is expected to be signed and returned, along with their agendas every single day. Their reading log will always be attached to the front of their homework, it has directions on the front of it and I ask that you please sign this to verify that your child is doing their independent reading at home. This lets me know that you are informed on what is being learned in the classroom.
Homework will usually consist of one page of math and one reading passage with comprehension questions per week. These things are due on Friday mornings. However, the reading log is to be completed every night and returned to school every day.
*IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR CHILD NEEDS ADDITIONAL RESOURCES TARGETING A PARTICULAR SUBJECT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL SEND YOU SOME.*
There will also be a Behavior and Work Ethic log attached to the inside of your child's take home folder located in their take home binder. On this, I will rate (on Fridays) how your child behaved and performed in school for that particular week and put any special notes that you may need to know. This log is completed by me weekly and all I ask is that you sign it at the end of every week stating that you have seen how your child is performing in school and behaving while at school.
Missing Work:
Any work that your child does not complete throughout the week will be sent home with them on Friday afternoons in their missing work folder. They have the weekend to complete this work and return it on Monday morning for full credit. If it is not turned in on Monday morning, it becomes a 0 in my grade book (excluding special circumstances).
