VISION STATEMENT
TO EMPOWER ONE ANOTHER TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE WORLD
A Message From Dr. Flowers- Principal
Dear Families,
It's been a great week at Brimfield Elementary!
Our fifth-grade choir had the honor of performing the National Anthem at the Cavs game. They did a wonderful job!
Additionally, we've had fun Valentine's Day activities across the building. Our student leaders sold suckers and many classes passed out Valentines.
As a friendly reminder, there will be no school from February 15th to February 19th. School will resume on February 20th.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead!
Warm regards,
Barb Flowers

Counselors Corner
Hello Brimfield Families!
Having open conversations with your students about cell phone safety is a crucial conversation to have with your student! Setting expectations and boundaries is important for students so they know what is safe for them, what is not safe and so they know they can share if they have a problem. The more you have an open dialogue with your students about technology, the more they will be willing to confide in you and come to you if there is a problem. Here are some tips for parents to manage their child's cell phone:
Set clear rules and boundaries: It's important to establish clear rules and boundaries with your child about their cell phone use. This includes setting limits on screen time, establishing guidelines for appropriate usage, and discussing the consequences for breaking the rules.
Monitor their activity: Keep an eye on your child's cell phone activity, who they are texting or who is texting them, the apps they use and the websites they visit. There are parental control apps and software that can help you monitor your child's online activity.
Have an open dialogue: Encourage your child to talk to you about their cell phone use and any concerns they may have. Keep the lines of communication open and non-judgmental.
Set a good example: Children often model their behavior after their parents, so it's important to model responsible cell phone use. Avoid using your phone excessively or in inappropriate situations.
Consider using parental controls: Parental controls can help limit access to certain apps or websites, restrict screen time, and set bedtimes for the device.
Educate your child about online safety: Teach your child about the importance of online safety, including how to avoid cyberbullying, protect personal information, and stay safe while using social media.
Encourage other activities: Encourage your child to engage in other activities, such as reading, outdoor play, or spending time with friends and family, to reduce their reliance on their cell phone.

PE NEWS!
This year's roller skating unit for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be February 26th-March 22nd! Your student will be bringing home a permission slip this week. Please make sure they return the permission slip and $12 fee by February 14th. If your student has a helmet at home please send it to school with them before February 26th. They can store the helmet in their classroom until the skating unit is over. If your student does not have a helmet to bring in, I will have some that they may use. Please make sure to read the permission slip carefully as we do have some changes this year. Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, starting February 8th, all kindergarten and first grade students will be participating in our strider bike unit! The strider bikes are specifically designed for young students to learn how to balance while using their feet to push themselves along. Once students are comfortable with their balancing skills, pedals can be added to the bikes so they can experience a more traditional biking experience. If your student has a bike helmet at home please send it to school with them before February 8th. They can store the helmet in their classroom until the bike unit is over. If your student does not have a helmet to bring in, I will have some that they may use.

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
