All Nature Sings
Mrs. Guthmann's 6th grade classes
Friday Homework, October 14th
Writing- Your assignment is still connected to the history fair. Finish your rough draft, using your outline and notecards. This is due on Monday, October 17th.
Literature- Finish reading Wonder, if you haven't already. On Tuesday, October 18th, you will be painting about your thoughts on "what is true beauty" or "what does it feel like to give or receive a gift of kindness from someone." Thoughtfully consider about what you will paint.
Botany- Read pages 87-89.
Harvest time!
Our time in the garden is so joyful each week. How amazing that our little seeds have become kale, bok choi, and arugula that some Arborbrook families bought and are enjoying in their salads. In addition to that, we also occasionally supply The Stone Table Restaurant in Monroe! Mrs. Shepherd uses those earnings for more supplies and plants. Students journaled about the growth of their plants.
Garden-side snacks
We were also able to eat some of the fruits of our labor with a garden-side snack.
Outdoor cooking
Mrs. Shepherd stir-fried some pok choi (which is different than bok choi) with fresh garlic on a camp stove, made mint tea, and sliced up some of our Asian persimmons. Students loved it!
"What's wrong with your face?!"
Sophie was one "Auggie."
Grace was "Auggie's friend."
Ashlyn was one of the reporters.
Finishing our literature selection, Wonder
In an attempt to try to experience how the main character, Auggie Pullman, felt with facial deformities, two students volunteered to wrap their faces with ace bandages and go through lunch time with unknowing third through fifth graders. Two people agreed to be Auggie's friends and two people agreed to be our reporters, recording the reactions of all those who passed by. Most comments were sympathetic, but the stares and avoidance gave our class a better idea of how hard life is for extraordinary people.
"Why are you doing that?!"
Abby was another "Auggie."
Meredith was "Auggie's friend."
Jordan was one of the reporters.
