Spring Service Project

We will not be hosting traditional Spring/Valentine's Day parties this year, but we will be completing a school-wide service project similar to many other WSD elementary schools.

This year, we are partnering with the Wentzville chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a national organization that collects and donates bedding to children in need, as well as building bed frames. Their mission is "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!"

We will be collecting new bedding items - pillows, sheets, pillow cases, etc. Please send these with your child between the dates of February 6-10. There will also be announcements on the PTO Facebook page.

On February 14, our students will be making cards for the children receiving bedding and writing thank you letters for the volunteers who assemble beds.

We are very excited about this project and in assisting local families ensure their children have comfortable and clean bedding, as we all know how important a good night's sleep can be!

National School Counselor's Week

February 6-10 is also National School Counselor's Week.

School Counselors wear many hats!

  • small group and class counselor lessons
  • individual meetings/sessions with students in need
  • working with teachers to address needs
  • connecting families with resources in our community
  • fundraisers and service projects

And on, and on, and on!

We are fortunate to have amazing counselors at LVE who work overtime to support the students, staff, and families of the Lion Pride.

Please join us in thanking Mrs. Davenport, Mrs. Erbs, Mrs. Tallin, and Mrs. Stenberg for their amazing work!

No School, February 20 & 21

WSD will not be in session on February 20 in honor of Presidents Day. WSD staff will also have a Professional Development Day on February 21. These are also noted in the "Important Calendar Dates" below.

WSD Belonging and Culture Family Survey

As part of the WSD’s ongoing efforts to meet the goals within the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), district surveys will be administered to students in grades K-12, families, and staff. The surveys are designed to solicit feedback about the sense of belonging created within each building as well as perspectives regarding building/department culture. Each school and department within the district will use this survey data to understand the current reality and to make improvements moving forward.

The district windows for students to take the surveys are Jan. 30-Feb. 10 and May 1-19.

For more information regarding these surveys, including logistics about the administration of the surveys, a preview of the surveys, and information on how to opt-out, please check out our WSD Belonging and Culture Survey page.

Wear it Wednesday!

Every Wednesday at Lakeview is a House Spirit Day, which we call WEAR IT WEDNESDAY! If your child wears a shirt reflecting their house color, they get one house point. We recognize not all families or students have official house shirts, and we want to recognize students who rock their house colors. As a reminder the colors are:

Altruismo - Black

Amistad - Red

Isibindi - Green

Reveur - Blue

If your child comes to school in a house shirt OR wearing a shirt of their color, they earn a point for their house.

District Cold Temperature/Wind Chill Advisory Guidelines

From the Office of the Superintendent:

"Extremely cold weather can be very dangerous. Parents and guardians should be certain that their children are appropriately clothed with mittens, hats, coats, etc., so they can be comfortable both inside and outside. Most days your student is going outside for some period of time either at recess or traveling to/from school.

The District follows these procedures for cold temperatures and/or wind chill advisories:

Cold Temperature/Wind Chill Advisory Guidelines

Temperature/wind chill under 15 degrees: All activities must be held indoors

Temperature/wind chill is 15-20 degrees: Outdoor activity is limited to 10 minutes

Temperature/wind chill is 20 degrees or higher: Outdoor activity is limited to 20 minutes

Temperature/wind chill is above 32 degrees: Activities can be held without restrictions

Inclement Weather Information

Inclement Weather Communication

Timely communication with our District families is always a priority, but especially important in inclement weather/ emergency school closing situations. Please be sure to notify your school office about any change in your personal contact information. Visit the WSD website for information on District practices during inclement weather/school closings.

Lion Leader Awards

We are very excited to announce the continuation of our Lion Leader Awards. This incentive is a great way to highlight students who are demonstrating exceptional character at Lakeview Elementary. Students who earn this award will receive a positive phone call home, their picture on our big screen televisions and ten (10) house points for their house! Students will also get an opportunity to share this award at our monthly den meetings. We can't wait to start recognizing students for their outstanding behavior!

Reporting an Absence

A parent or legal guardian must call the school office each day a student is absent. Student attendance will be recorded on a daily basis. When a student returns to school after an absence, a note of explanation from the parent, legal guardian, physician, or other health providers, must be submitted for absences to be excused. Failure to submit notes or make telephone calls explaining why a child is absent will result in the absence being marked as unexcused. You can email our attendance secretary Kim Majesky at attendance.Lakeview@wsdr4.org.

Late Arrivals

If a student comes to school after 9 a.m., he or she will be counted as tardy and a parent must sign him or her in at the office. Please do not send a child who is late into the building alone. A pass will be issued by the office secretary to admit the student to class. Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom by school start time (9 a.m.). Being on time is important. Students who come late miss important educational experiences.

Dismissal Changes

We have made an adjustment to our dismissal time from the office. Students can not be dismissed from the office after 3:30 p.m. If you need to sign your student out early, it must be done before 3:30 p.m.

Changes to your child’s dismissal/transportation plans need to be communicated to the teacher or the main office. If you need to make an occasional transportation change (car rider instead of the bus, etc.), you must send a note to your child’s teacher. If that is not possible, you may call the office on the day of the change before 3:15 p.m. so the office staff has adequate time to notify your child’s teacher. You can also email changes to the office at attendance.Lakeview@wsdr4.org. You must provide a note or call each day that you want your child to go home in a different manner than usual.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding.
