Our Mission

Leestown Middle School is committed to engaging students in learning experiences that empower each with the tools for life-long success.

Happy New Year

According to the FCPS matrix, we will still be in remote learning through January 29th. This will be updated again on the 19th.

Whenever it is determined that we will return to in-person learning, a graduated approach will be used. A graduated approach will be in 4 stages over 4 weeks and will follow this plan

Stage 1- grades K-2

Stage 2- grades 3-5, 6th, 9 and 12

Stage 3- grades 7,, 8, 10, and 11

Stage 4- preschool

Here at Leestown, we have been preparing for students to return on campus when it is safe to do so. Below is a brief summary of what our plans will look like for in-person and remote:

In-Person Learning:

Students returning to campus will stay on their current team and follow their current schedule. We will have a block schedule that will be very similar to the distance learning schedule. School will start at 9:05 and end at 4:00 each day. We will follow all healthy at school guidelines on campus.

Remote Learning:

Students will keep their same schedule and same core teacher. Students will work on asynchronous assignments and will have remote teacher facilitators that will be available to provide daily help and/or instruction.

We will be able to give more details when a decision is made to come back for in-person learning.

Charger Boys Basketball announces tryout dates!

Tuesday, January 19th - 6th and 7th graders, 6:30PM-8:30PM

Wednesday, January 20th - 8th graders, 6:30PM-8:30PM

Friday, January 22nd - 6th and 7th graders, 4:00PM-6:00PM

Friday, January 22nd - 8th graders, 6:30PM-8:30PM

Saturday, January 23rd - 6th and 7th graders, 9:30AM-11:00AM

Saturday, January 23rd - 8th graders, 11:30AM-1:00PM

Your child must have a hard copy of his sports physical to hand to the coaching staff on the day of tryouts. We no longer file sports physicals in the office. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Keeping up with 200 sports physicals and expiration dates became an unmanageable task and your help is greatly appreciated!

Your child also must bring his own water bottle and mask to practice each day. He will not be permitted to stay without both. All of Fayette County's "Return to Play" guidelines will be strictly enforced. The biggest question we get is "Will my child have to play in a mask?" The answer is that while our athletes are actively involved in practice, drills, etc. he will not be required to wear a mask, but once a player steps off of the floor and is no longer actively involved in a drill or practice, he will be expected to put his mask back on. Coaches will wear masks for the duration unless demonstrating or being actively involved in a drill. The most important thing each one of us can do is monitor the health of our children!

Charger Girls Basketball is coming into the second part of the season tied for the #1 seed. A few have predicted we will win the championship this year with this team! More updates on Charger Girls Basketball in the coming weeks!

Grades are monitored on a weekly basis for athletics. A student must have a 2.0 GPA for the 2nd quarter in order to be eligible to tryout, per SBDM policy.

At this point, the plan is for both boys and girls to play a complete schedule, including post-season playoffs. There will be some overlap in boys and girls seasons and it will be busy and require everyone’s complete cooperation, but we are very grateful for our kids to have the opportunity to play and the staff at Leestown is committed to making it happen and we know our families are too! When you see staff members working games, they are there volunteering so that your child can have the opportunity to play. One thing you’ll always see at Leestown is staff stepping up to the plate for the kids and athletics is no different.

There is no information available on spring sports at this time.

As always, let me know if you have any questions at Jill.pilcher@fayette.kyschools.us. You all have been fantastic and we appreciate you.

Go Chargers!!!!!!

Canvas Resources

Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, all secondary schools and programs (grades 6–12) are using Canvas as their learning management system (LMS) or online classroom space. Teachers will communicate information about class instruction and assignments through this platform. Students can access this space using their district email and password. Look for the link to Canvas in the “waffle” after students log in to their Google Drive. In addition, families can monitor their student’s progress using the Canvas Parent app for mobile devices. Click here to go to FCPS Canvas Resource page.
