SLE WEEKLY UPDATE January 13, 2023
Be East!
Good Afternoon,
Welcome back! We hope you had a restful break and are ready to get back to business. Every week our students continue to achieve and make us proud. Recently, SLEHS and SLHS Debate students earned recognition as they competed in what is considered to be the "Super Bowl" of debate for the Wayne-Oakland Debate League (WODL). Livonia Stevenson, Livonia Churchill, Dearborn High, Edsel Ford, Plymouth, Canton, Salem, and Novi are also in this league. There are two divisions, "Novice" and "Varsity" with roughly 75 students in each division. The "Super" Session consists of the top 20 speakers from each division. Congratulations to East Varsity speaker Zachary Yost, and Novice speaker Saghana Parasurama for their outstanding performances. Additionally, on Thursday of this week, 8 students from our DECA program qualified for the State competition in early March. Jake Reed, Audrey Mullan, Srilassya Yalavarti, McKenna Chembola, Srinitha Chandiri, Ivanka Tasevski, Katie Bracco, and Chloe Knudsen. Well done!
There is no school for students on Monday, January 16th in observance of the national holiday honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Additionally, please see below for the schedule for the week of January 23rd.
Mark your calendars for our annual Curriculum Night which takes place on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Facilitators from each department will be available to answer questions about the curriculum and many representatives from our co/extracurricular activities will be present to share information about their programs. More information regarding Curriculum Night can be found below.

SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 23, 2023
CURRICULUM NIGHT
Prior to the fair, we will hold an optional informational meeting for the class of 2027 and their families beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
The Curriculum Fair benefits all of our students and parents as it provides an orientation for incoming ninth-graders, as well as an opportunity for all of our current students (9th-11th graders) to converse with teachers about courses students may be considering next year. In addition, students will have the opportunity to ask questions about clubs and activities which are an essential part of our high school experience. Parents and students will be able to meet with department facilitators in the Academic Pathways from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
We hope that all parents and students will be able to join us for this informational evening!
