The Great Rennaissance Sculptor


In the year 1386 the yet to become the Greatest Renaissance Sculptor Donatello (Donato di Niccolo) was born. He received his early artistic training in a goldsmith workshop. No one really knows how or who inspired Donatello to sculpt.


1 . Made the statue of David-It was made during the early 1400's. It was Donatello's Most famous work of art. He made the Statue of David in three different styles marble, bronze and a biblical statue of David.

2. Made a massive statue of Gattmelata-One of Donatello's largest sculpture made in 1453. It was a massive bronze equestrian statue of Gattmelata. It was twenty-five feet high!

3. Made a sculpture of St. Mark- It was made during 1411-1413. It was a tall marble statue of St. Mark . This is one of Donatello's main work of art.

Impact on Today

Donatello made a huge impact on today. He was one of the first people to make life-like statues. His techniques are still tought and used today. The Statue of Liberty creators were probably inspired by Donatello's works of art. North America's famous Statue of Liberty was probably inspired by Donatello's work

Interesting Facts

1.Donatello's statue of David was made before Michelangelo's statue of David (Michelangelo probably copied off of Donatello's Statue of David)

2.Donatello made all of his statues from bronze, marble and brick.

3.Donatello is one of the four original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. All the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are named after the four main renaissance artist.(Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello.)
