5 Themes of Meography

There are two different kinds of location, absolute and relative.

Absolute location is a specific location like lattitude and longitude. The lattitude and longitude of my hometown is 45.6092° N, 94.4517° W. Relative location is an approximate location like in Minnesota past the Avon beach, on the backroad to Albany.

Human-Environmental Interaction

Human-Environmental Interaction is how people adapt to, modify, and depend on nature.

Adapting is making something suitable for a new use. Modifying something is to make partial changes to it. Depending on something is relying on something for support or maintenance. I adapt to the environment by wearing a jacket in the winter and a t-shirt in the summer. I modify my environment by mowing the lawn, digging holes and cutting down trees. I depend on my environment for oxygen, crops and water.

Movement is the way people, products, ideas and information move from one place to another. I get from place to place in a car. I have a T-shirt I got from Europe. I communicate to the world with my phone or a letter. I have traveled to England, Wisconsin Dells and Yellowstone.

A region is an area that is defined by certain similar characteristics. One physical feature of the midwest is the freezing winter temperature and the hot summer temperature. One human feature of the Midwest is the Mall of America in Minnesota.
