Proud to Be Your Principal
Happy Friday Firebird families! We've had a great week here at our schools. Our students are getting into the rhythms and routines of the school day, and we're so proud of all of them for their good attitudes and eagerness to learn. Their energy, as well as your involvement, is part of what makes MJ1 an awesome district to be part of - thank you!
Proud to be your principal,
Brent Johnson

Athletic Highlight: Firebird Cross Country
The Firebird cross country team is off to a great start! The team, made up of a group of dedicated middle school runners, started their season well before the first day of school. Their dedication and persistence paid off in the first meet, where the girls’ team placed 1st. The race at 9-mile was led by Kristina Bodewes, who achieved 1st place for the girls, followed by team mates Mia Case and Kate Melms who placed in the top 10. The rest of this 9 girl team which includes runners from MHLT, Woodland, and AVW, also achieved a good first race. The boys were led by Casey Van Hefty who came in 3rd in the boys’ race, followed by Connor Simpson, Brody Vizanko (AVW) and Michael Kosmen. The boys did not have enough runners to earn a team score, but all ran well individually.
The Firebirds traveled to Marshfield on Tuesday, September 6. Although the 16 high school teams were unable to run, due to heavy thunderstorms, the 14 middle school teams dodged raindrops to complete their races. Our girls team placed 3rd, with Kristina Bodewes again leading the way with a 5th place finish, followed by Kate Melms and Mia Case. The boys finished strong with Casey Van Hefty leading with a 6th place finish. He was followed by good races from teammates Connor Simpson and Brody Vizanko. Along with 4 other schools, the Firebird Boys team did not have enough runners to earn a team placement.
This young team is made up of runners who work hard and give it all they’ve got. They have 5 more meets to go!
*Any middle school boys who like to run and might be interested in joining this great team please see Mrs. Hunter or Ms. Taube for information. There is still a lot of the season left!
