This week in 7th grade ELA we began our novel The Giver to start our Dystopian unit! So far the kids are making connections between the world that exists in the book and their own world. For our writing assignment this unit we are creating our own utopia’s that turn into a dystopia. Students brainstormed different elements that they would want in their perfect world. We will continue to build off of these ideas in our creative writing outline to create our story. Students presented a homophone anchor chart that they have been working on with a partner to the class. A better way to help us remember how to use the correct form of a word. I met with students and conferenced about their independent reading book for this new unit. Students have opportunities each week to read in class and should be doing so at home as well! Please encourage your child to be reading in their free time a few pages a night. Have a wonderful weekend!

Pre Algebra has done a nice job with the concepts of constant of proportionality and rate of change this week. We will continue with these skills next week and end with work on slope. If your child does not have a calculator for pre-algebra, please get them one. The work they are doing very regularly requires one. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Seitz
Algebra wrapped up the unit on functions and equations. We began the unit test on Thursday but with the Veterans Day program, many students will be completing the test on Monday. Next Tuesday we will delve into our new unit which deals with linear relationships. In this unit, students will be working with linear functions, building and modeling with linear functions, and working with systems of equations. Some of this will review concepts from Pre Algebra but much of this material will be new. I look forward to meeting with many of you during teacher conferences next Wednesday the 16th or the following Monday the 21st . Have a great weekend.

In science class this week, we talked about the advantages of being multicellular, the organization of life from cells to tissues to organs to systems to organisms, and finally the relationship between structure and function. We also took a quiz on this final section of the chapter. Students also completed and presented their cell city projects. Some students did posters, some did 3-D models and some built their city using the game Minecraft to describe the cell to city analogy. They were all done very well. You can check out some posters and the models in the main hallway of the school.
We will have the chapter four assessment Monday or Tuesday next week.
Grades will be completed Friday afternoon and no late work will be accepted as the gradebook will be closed and I am not able to enter grades after that. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great weekend!

This week in U.S History the 7th graders participated in a stocks and bonds simulation. The students had a great time investing with the goal of trying to make as much money as possible. Students learned how to make money buy buying stocks at a low price and selling them at a high one. Overall, I was impressed with how all students did during this simulation. Next week we will get back into the book and look at Chapter 12. In this Chapter we will start by looking at Andrew Jackson as president. We will discuss how he handles different problems in American. I’d like to thank everyone who attended our Veterans Day program, have a great weekend. Mr. Johnsen

We finished up our Day of the Dead Unit with working on and completing our final project, which will be the last grade of the trimester and will be entered by weekend's end. We also finished up our Numbers Unit but didn't have a chance to take the quiz, so we will be taking it this Monday. Next week, we will begin our Calendar Unit.

This week in health the 7th graders finished watching the unintentional injury newscasts created by their peers. They also started their intentional injury unit, which will focus on bullying. The students learned and practiced how other countries greet each other. After the activity, we discussed how important it is to be open and accepting of others’ differences. We also participated in a Bully Bowl where the class was divided into four different teams and answered a variety of different questions related to bullying. At the end of the week we defined bullying and listed different types of bullying.
This week in PE the students started their badminton unit. We learned and practiced the singles serve, overhead clear, doubles serve, and the net clear. On Friday, we played one of their favorites, Medic Ball!
Have a super weekend!
