Dear Charlemagne Families:
What a wonderful time we had celebrating each other and our diverse learning community at Mardi Gras Friday night. A simple "thank you" doesn’t seem enough for the hours and dedication our planners-- Marta Cuboni (Chair) and Julia Anderson (Cake Walk Master),-- other orchestrators and volunteers put in! The sensory art room was a fantastic addition this year-- special thanks to Lesli Takasugi for the idea and execution. And, nice work to our 4th grade parents who organized food sales to benefit Canoe Island. Finally, a special thanks to the Moore family for staying late to clean up. Thank you for making Mardi Gras such a wonderful event and thank you to those who attended... we had a lot of fun!

Science Fair is Coming
Spring must be coming because it's getting time for the Science Fair! This year the fair will take place the week AFTER Spring Break, on Thursday, April 2nd. The fair takes place after school from 3-6, and kids can bring in projects the day before or morning of. No need to sign up early or register. In order to be judged or have comments, the projects are due by noon the day of the fair.
The Science Fair is a fun opportunity for kids to explore areas of interest in the sciences, to learn the scientific method, and prepare and organize a project. Students may work as individuals or in groups and all grades are encouraged to participate.
We will have categories and will bring back judges to give the kids feedback from real scientists (judging is optional). Third grade will provide food and drinks to purchase as they raise money for their class trip to Canoe Island. It's always a fun afternoon!
The categories will be based on the school science curriculum. If your child is wondering what project to do, think about these categories!
*Physical Science
*Life Science
*Earth and Space Sciences
*Engineering, Technology and Applications of Science
A limited number of Tri Fold boards to display your project will be ready to purchase in the coming weeks at school. Office Depot also sells Tri-Fold boards.

District Messaging System
School Text Messages
Are you signed up to receive school texts?
To help you stay informed and connected with your student’s school, this year Eugene School District 4J has added a new text messaging service through the district’s “autodialer” system. In addition to email and phone messages, schools may send occasional text messages with safety alerts or other important information.
A test message was sent on Monday, Feb. 17, to all parents with a phone designated as a mobile phone in their student records. The message came from the short code 67587 and began “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications.” Parents who received this message are subscribed to receive future text notifications.
If you did not receive the test message and want to opt-in to text messages, please designate a mobile phone number in your student's record. The messaging system only allows text messages to be sent to numbers listed in the cell phone field. If you only have a mobile phone, you can list it as both your home and mobile phone number.
To designate a cell phone number in your student’s records:
1. Log in to your ParentVUE account, go to "My Account" and add your mobile phone in the cell phone field, or
2. Contact the school to add/designate a mobile phone number.
Text messages will come from the short code 67587. Standard message and data rates apply. To stop receiving text messages, reply STOP at any time. To opt back in to receiving messages, send Y or YES to 67587. To change how you receive different types of messages, go to go.schoolmessenger.com, create a login, and go to “Preferences” to change your settings.
