Know Your Data
(and what to do with it)!!
Data, Data, Data!
Our schools are saturated with data. Do we understand exactly what we are looking at when we “analyze” our data? Do we understand why we are collecting the data and how it can help us learn about our students? Do we know how and when to look at all of the data vs. when to narrow our focus and hone in on specific information? Do we know what to do with the data in our classrooms to inform and adjust instruction? ARIN IU28’s new data series, Know Your Data (and what to do with it) uses these exact questions to guide and direct learning toward creating a culture of data literacy. Creating this culture of data literacy requires using both a team and individual approach to support the understanding and practical use of the data available in our schools.
This three day series is not designed to train on analyzing data from specific assessments: it is a learning experience designed to dig into the why and how of data analysis and how to support overall assessment literacy in efforts to use data productively in our schools. We will look at data on a systematic level, from developing and using assessment maps to creating data teams, and we will also look at data at the classroom level, from having productive data team meetings to creating an action plan with identified strategies to inform and adjust instruction.
