The Notebook
Textual analysis
Layout
The layout of the page is quite simple. The banner is positioned at the top of the page to draw the attention of the audience and the poster of the film is on the left hand side with a purchase button below it.
Next to the poster, there are small images designed for the audience to get curious and interested in finding out more about the film. On the right hand side, there is the synopsis that offers the audience a summary of the film.
Further down the page, there is the trailer – this helps promoting the film, attracting the audience and persuading them into purchasing the film. There is also a FAQs section near the bottom of the page, so people can find out more about the film.
Visual style/Colours
The light colour of the banner on the website symbolises the pure love between the two characters; also, the shot of them two connotes their close relationship and what the film is about.
The light grey background complements with the black font and with the colour of the banner. In the picture of the poster, the male character is wearing a white shirt to connote his story within the film is clean, however the female character is wearing a blue shirt; this portrays there is more to her story, which triggers the audience’s interest in purchasing the film.
Images
The close up of the two characters in the picture (banner) at the top of the website shows that they are the main character and they are in love. The image of the poster represents a mid-shot of them again, about to kiss in the rain; this shot connotes an overall summary, encouraging people to watch/purchase the film.
Next to the poster, there are six small pictures. The reason why the pictures are so small is to draw people’s attention so that they would click on them and get an insight of what the film’s about, which would potentially make them want to watch the entire film.
In the pictures, both characters maintain the stereotypes as the male character appears as being protective and the female character is represented in a very feminine way.
Font/typography
The website also makes use of synergy, in the sense that the website is actually a book website and The Notebook is a webpage on the film; this way, people would not only be drawn in to watch/purchase the film, but they would also be interested in reading the book and other ones too.
