Encore News!
Art - Mrs. Aeschliman:
Hello EHE families! Can you believe the first quarter is already over? Wow, it always seems to go so fast! The art room has been abuzz with artists creating in several different media!
PreK students have been working on color projects in art. They are working their way through the rainbow of colors and learning color songs along the way as well. We just finished up a yellow pencil and a green frog project. K-1 students are choosing to work in drawing, collage or painting studios now. 2nd grade just learned how to photograph and upload their work to Artsonia. They have also been working in drawing or collage and we are starting paper sculptures next. 3-5th graders have also been using drawing and collage studios. We are about to start some paper sculpture as well. 6th grade 2D art finished up the quarter in their Google Encore 2D Art game. I saved a handful of pieces created for display later in the year. Sixth grade 3D art has begun for the second quarter and they are starting out with 7 stations around the room featuring the Studio Habits of Mind. They are creating smaller scale projects based on the studio habit. It’s been a fun way to start the quarter!
We are using Artsonia again this year for PK - 6th grade students’ portfolios. Here is a direct link if you need to connect to your students portfolio and have not yet: https://www.artsonia.com/connect/CF8WKBZ4
You can click or type in the link (or just go to the website and put in the code).
Eagle Heights code is: CF8WKBZ4
You will then enter your child's name and grade, along with an email address. It really is that easy! It will send your request to me and I will then finish connecting you on my end.
I do have an Amazon wish list for EHE because the yearly budget only affords me the very basics in art supplies. If you would like to help support our art studio and the EHE artists go to my wishlist here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/TAO5QQQYZRM2?ref_=wl_share
THANK YOU so much for all of your support! It’s a GREAT day to be a WARRIOR!
Innovation Lab: with Mrs. Thompson
It’s hard to believe it’s already November. We continue to be busy in the innovations lab with projects, programming, and more!
Students in 4th and 5th grade are learning about digital citizenship. We started with learning about our digital footprint and will continue to learn how to be as safe as possible online. Students did a Google search of themselves and found out how quickly our digital searches can follow us.
The other grades are working on stop motion animations and robot projects. Second graders will continue to be programmers on code.org this quarter. They will be masters at debugging code and creating algorithms. Even our preschoolers will be using robots that code with markers and colors!
If you are able to help donate a few things, we are in need of masking tape! We go through A LOT of masking tape in our room and we are down to our last few rolls from our year’s supply! Also, if you have old computer mice (with a cord) that you are not using anymore, our classroom could use them. Computer mice make coding on code.org so much easier and our young programmers would be so thankful!
Thank you for supporting the classroom. As always, if you have questions feel free to reach out at thompsoa@smithville.k12.mo.us
Music: with Mr. Venner
The fun rolls on in the music room. Grades kindergarten and first will be playing drum set and learning to read rhythms. Second grade will be learning the sword dance (we’ll be safe, no worries)
Third and Fourth will be rehearsing and preparing their music program to be presented at the Performing Arts Center at 7pm on December 1. I will send home a note for parents next week with more details. Fifth grade will be learning to play the soprano recorder, I will send a note next week that has details on where to buy one. In addition to playing their soprano recorder, students will also get to work with the bass, tenor, alto, and sopranino recorders that I have here.
The Eagle Heights Jubilee choir is preparing their music for their concert on December 7 with the choirs from Horizon and Maple. We will also be taking 8 hard working students to the northwest all district choir on November 19.
P.E. with Coach Parker
Please make sure that your child is bringing athletic shoes on their PE days during the winter months. I have encouraged your child to pack athletic shoes in their backpacks so they can change into them before PE if they are wearing boots or crocs. 2nd through 6th grade has started their soccer unit and are currently practicing dribbling, shooting, passing, and learning the basic rules and fundamentals of soccer. We have done two weeks of team indoor soccer and the kids have done a great job. Our first round of fitness testing is right around the corner.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students have been working on station rotations and have been revisiting some of the skills that we have learned already this school year.
Library with Mrs. Rice
EHE Library has been busy this month celebrating fall, Halloween, and the Book Fair that arrived November 3rd! We had our first Genre of the Month challenge which focused on the Mystery/Horror/Fantasy genre for the month. For every book read, a student received a bat to put on the window and their name was entered in a drawing for a spooky treat! Grades K-2 have been reading the Show Me Reader Nominee books and grades 3-5 have been focusing on the purpose and use of Destiny, our libraries search engine to put books on hold and search for books students want to check out.
In November, students will be learning about Veterans Day and participating in the Balloons on Broadway for the upcoming Thanksgiving season. Grades 4-5 will have the chance to build their float for the library to display so any shoe boxes, boxes, and or supplies for donation for this would be greatly appreciated! The Book fair will continue from November 7th until November 11th! Make sure to set up your students eWallet if you would like them to not have to bring money to school.
Be a part of the plan!
We are soliciting names to be considered for participation in the upcoming strategic planning sessions for the Smithville School District. Participants must be available to participate on November 17 and November 18 from 8 am to 12 pm.
We are looking for a wide range of participants that represent various stakeholders in our community. We are limited in the number of participants so we may not be able to accommodate all volunteers.
If interested and available on November 17 and November 18 from 8 am to 12 pm, please enter your name and the stakeholder group(s) you represent below. Thank you so much for your interest in serving and your commitment to the SSD!
