Thoughts from Dr. Pacatte
COVID Update
While I was so hoping that we wouldn't have to begin monitoring COVID 19 again this year, that is not the case. As in most of Lake County, we have seen a bump in cases with the new variant Ba2 working it's way through our geographic area. I have had a number of conversations with the Lake County Health Department as recently as Wednesday morning. While they continue to monitor the virus, there are no metrics for us to follow, as most testing is being done through home test kits. What is being seen in most schools is an uptick in cases, primarily in middle and high schools. We have been monitoring and investigating the cases we are seeing. Viking School has experienced the largest number of cases including both staff and students. While monitoring events such as concerts, field trips, and sports, we are not finding cases impacting those programs. Few cases are being linked to other students and the elementary student numbers are very small.
We encourage families and students to consider wearing their masks and evaluate their participation in outside activities, at least until we finish the year. The symptoms for vaccinated individuals are typically mild yet still require 5 days out of the school building.
The Lake County Health Department recommends to continue washing hands, maintaining social distances, and masking in crowded indoor spaces.
