It's not too late....

If you have not had your child make an ornament for their classroom tree its not too late.

Giving Trees

The front office is hosting a tree that will be filled with action figures and toy fashion dolls, the cafeteria tree will be filled with socks and underwear and the library is hosting an Angel Tree for specific family needs. Each of the Giving Trees are ready for donations. Our collections will go to Cornerstone Assistance Network who serve our neighbors in need. We would like to make the donations by Monday, December 14. Thank you from the start for your giving spirit and warm hearts!!!

CLOTHES and SHOES!!

As the weather changes please make sure to write your child's last name in their jackets. Also please remember if your child wears boots to school, they still need to bring shoes for PE.

Karate Belt Math

We have been learning math strategies to help us add quickly and we have a fun new way to motivate our first graders to practice these strategies. You can help at home by practicing with the flash cards below.

I will be pacing the class by practicing one strategy at a time. Each time they master the use of that strategy, they will earn a karate belt. Its’ really a colored piece of electrical tape on their pencil, but it works! Then, depending on their progress, we will release the next set of flash cards that focus on the next strategy. Your child is working in class on earning their White belt by writing their numbers forwards and backwards to 50.

Next week, we will begin by practicing the counting on strategy(yellow belt). It is quite simple and the kids should earn this belt quickly. The math facts are all (?+1) or (?+2). They will earn their yellow belt if they successfully complete this set and then move on to the next belt (set of cards). I will send out the attachments for the new strategy and explain the strategy as we progress. They will progressively get more difficult so expect the times to vary between earning their belts.

I hope you enjoy helping your student prepare for this at home. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Math is very different today, than the way we learned! Please use the attached documents to work on these concepts at home.
