Coloma Junior High

Week of October 5, 2020

Classwork and homework provide students with the opportunity to practice or reinforce the skills that are being taught in the classroom. Our teachers structure their class periods so that the majority of the work can be completed in class. Students that are unable to finish in the time that is allowed need to plan on completing that work at home in the evenings. At the Junior High level, it is common to see Math homework almost daily and homework from other classes regularly.

You can help your child by

  • Providing time and space for them to complete their homework
  • Checking PowerSchool regularly
  • Having regular conversations about their classes
  • Assisting with organization

6th Grade Parents

We recognize that the adjustment to having 6 classes and 6 different teachers is a big adjustment coming into the Junior High. Students have expressed that they are having difficulty keeping track of homework assignments. Teachers pulled together and have implemented a common practice across classes to help our students with organization. All students have installed Google Keep on their Chromebooks. Teachers assisted them by setting up "sticky notes" to organize their assignments. Ask your child to show you their Google Keep over the weekend so that you can see how they are staying organized.

6th Grade Teachers have also created a 6th Grade Webpage. Just click the link below for 6th Grade specific information.

Staff Celebration - Shine A Light

In our Bi-Weekly Staff Meetings, we start each meeting with Celebrations and passing the Shine A Light Trophy. Our Shine a Light Trophy is an opportunity to thank a staff member for going above and beyond, being awesome or just in general making Coloma Junior High a shinier happier place to be.

This past meeting, Mr. Zahrt passed the trophy to our cafeteria staff, for their dedication and work during the mandated closure and the summer. Mr. Zahrt said, "I was able to rest easier knowing that our cafeteria staff was making sure that our students were taken care of". Thank you to all of our cafeteria workers. We have the best kitchen staff around!

Pictured below are Ms. Doreen Hess and Ms. April Gagliardo! Thank you for all that you do!
