The Manning Weekly Update
December 17, 2023
Dear Manning Families,
It is hard to believe, but we have reached the end of first semester, which means that we are half-way through our 23/24 school year. I want to thank you all for a successful first half of the year, and I cannot wait to kick off the second half in January! In the meantime, please enjoy your winter break! Below are a few updates and reminders:
- Taking Care of Our Community - As I have shared earlier in the year with you all, one of our responsibilities as a school community is to ensure that we are good stewards of our greater community, which includes ensuring that our students are on their best behavior when they frequent restaurants and coffee shops in our neighborhood. While it appears that we have curbed some of the issues occurring at Starbucks, we understand that there have been some recent issues at the Chick-Fil-A. Parents, please take time to remind your students that inappropriate behavior at these venues is unacceptable and these businesses may refuse service to students and/or engage law enforcement. Thank you in advance for your support.
- Tuesday, December 19 - Just a reminder that this Tuesday, December 19th, is a modified contact day for all students. Only students who need to make up class work or an assessment need to attend school on Tuesday. If your student is required to attend on December 19, you will hear from their specific teacher/s.
- Winter Break - Winter break begins on Wednesday, December 20 - Friday, January 5 for students. Students return to school on Monday, January 8.
- New Entrance Time - As you saw from the email shared on December 12, we are shifting our regular entrance time to 8:15 from 8:10 beginning on Monday, January 8. Access still begins at 7:50 and breakfast at 8:00. The purpose behind this change is to keep our classrooms quieter and more focused for students seeking support during access, extending the time by five minutes. Further, it helps ensure we have more supervision in the hallways during the soft start if we reduce it by five minutes.
- Left Turns out of the Parking Lot - Just a reminder that during peak traffic times, drivers should only be making right-hand turns out of the parking lot or north driveway onto 32nd Avenue.. This significantly reduces parking lot congestion during our busiest times.
- Upcoming Panorama Survey - Manning students will be completing the Panorama Perception Survey this spring. Please check out THIS LETTER for more information about the survey. Please reach out to MATT with questions.
- There are new sign ups for Manning Sports and Clubs that begin second term. Check out choices below.
In Partnership,
Matt

The Battle of the Books has Begun! This is a program that encourages students to read a variety of good books from different genres, have fun, and compete by demonstrating their knowledge of these books. Each team will collectively read eight books, which means that each student will need to be an expert on only a few books, depending on the size of the team.
Students who wish to participate in Battle of the Books will form a team of 2-6 students from our school, and the team will use this google form (tinyurl.com/ManningBattle24) to sign up. If a student would like to participate but needs help finding a team, they can use the form to indicate that, and Sarah Hammershaimb will help them find a team. The deadline to complete the form is January 15th.
The Battle of the Books competition at Manning will take place at the end of April, and our winning team will compete against other district middle schools on May 13th.
Please visit the Manning Library website and the Middle School BotB website to learn more!
