Kindergarten - We are typing and editing poems that we wrote.
First Grade - We are working with formatting our text and pictures in MS Word.
Second Grade - We are creating slide shows on our iPads in Keynote.
Third Grade - We are researching states of matter.
Fourth Grade - We are working on a current events slide show, we have been paring down the amount of words on the page as we become the experts on our topics.
Fifth Grade - We are finishing our presentations of our probability experiments.
Junior Kindergarten has been learning about Body parts, Clothing, Earth Day, and vocabulary for Breakfast and Lunch.
Kindergarten has been learning about Clothing, Spring Words, Community Helpers, and Earth Day.
1st Grade has been learning about Clothing, Spring Words, and Animals.
2nd Grade has been learning about Math word problems and Emotions.
3rd Grade has been learning about Greetings and Questions, Places, and Transportation.
4th Grade has been learning about Greetings and Questions and math problems with numbers 0-1000.
5th Grade has been learning about parts of a land; they created their own and wrote sentences about it.
4th Grade having conversations in Spanish using questions and greetings.

Health/P.E.
HEALTH:
JK: The Junior Kindergarten students finished a unit on The Human Eye. The students learned about the major parts of the eye and their functions.
K: The Kindergarten students finished a unit on Safety While Playing. Throughout the unit the students learned about recognizing emergencies, ways to interact safely if confronted by a stranger, safe practices in or near bodies of water and ways to cross the street safely.
1st: The First grade students finished a unit on Being Safe. Throughout the unit the students learned the importance of following safety rules at home, at school, in cars and buses, while walking and biking, and near water.
2nd: The second grade students finished a unit on Staying Safe. Throughout the unit the students learned ways to avoid injuries around water and animals; at school; on wheels; and in cars and buses.
3rd: The third grade students finished a unit on Keeping Safe. Throughout the unit the students learned about being responsible for one’s safety, stranger danger and bulling.
4th: The fourth grade students started a unit on Fitness and Activity. Thus far they have learned about the importance of good posture and the importance of various physical activities such as aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
5th: The fifth grade students just finished a unit on bulling. The students worked together to create an anti-bulling video clip that identified the victim, the bully and the bystanders. They video clip showed how to handle a bulling situation and ways to get help.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
JrK-K: This past month the students played various games using the parachute.

1st -5th: This past month the students took part in various activities that helped strengthen their teambuilding skills.

Art Room News May 2015
We are still in Asia but just finishing up some projects!
The 5th grade is finishing their Asian Ink Painting and will begin a interdisciplinary garden lesson. After studying impressionism they will design a garden for the Chesterbrook property.
The 4th Grade is working on a Russian story box project. They will paint and decorate their boxes and include a drawing of Russian Architecture.
The 3rd Grade has printed their Gyotaku Japanese fish prints and will glue them onto their collaged background. Next they will create an Indian Mendhi drawing or their own arms (but on paper).
The 2nd grade is working on an interdisciplinary landscape painting that they will use for their See America Posters.
The 1st Grade is finishing up their Russian Architecture designs that also have a self-portrait element of a digital photo on a flying carpet.
Kindergarten is finishing their Russian Egg Design and will create an Indian Elephant collage next.
Junior Kindergarten just finished their patterned Russian Egg and Russian Doll design after reading two of Patricia Polocco’s book about Babushka (Grandmother in Russian).
We still have the continents of Europe and Austrailia to travel to before the end of the year so we will be busy in art every day! Hopefully we will arrive home before the end of school!
This month we have been working hard in music class to prepare for our upcoming Spring Concerts!!
The concert dates are as follows:
Junior Kindergarten’s Spring Concert: Thursday, May 14th at 9:00 AM. Students should dress nicely for the concert.
Kindergarten’s Spring Musical – The Tears of the Dragon: Thursday, May 14th at 2:00 PM. Students should dress nicely for the concert.
1st – 5th grades’ Musical – Once Upon a Dream: Thursday, May 28th. Mrs. Valent will send a notification of arrival times and student dress soon.
