Global School Play Day, February 5
Classrooms at Dryden will be participating in Global School Play Day, this Wednesday, February 5. Schools from all over the world come together on this one day to celebrate the necessity of unstructured play in our students’ lives at school. Research shows that unstructured play has a positive influence on:
physical and mental health
language development
problem solving
risk management
independent learning skills
academic skills
classroom behavior
healthy emotional attitudes
better adjustment to school life
The learning will continue as the students play - it just may appear differently. Individual classrooms will determine the length of play from an hour to a half-day, as it allows in their schedules. There will be opportunities for students to document and reflect as they play and learn.
You can visit http://www.globalschoolplayday.com/ for further information about Global School Play Day.
Classroom Valentine Parties & Fancy Day, February 12
We are looking forward to celebrating friendship, love and caring at Dryden during our class Valentine parties on Wednesday, February 12!
In order to help keep our students with life-threatening food allergies safe, our school district expectations continue to be that Valentine cards to students cannot have any candy or food attached to them. Items such as goodie bags filled with treats or candy are also not permitted. Trinkets such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc., are great alternatives as long as they are not edible.
February 12 is also a school spirit "Fancy Day" at Dryden. Everyone is invited to create or choose something "fancy" to wear to show your school spirit.
We look forward to this double celebration!

Variety Show Volunteers Needed (2/19 & 2/21)
We need some parents back stage, selling concessions, and helping the show run smoothly. Don't worry - you can definitely be out front when your child is performing! Please check out the sign-up to see where you can help. Thank you!
PTA Book Club
Book Club needs a few more volunteers
Book Club is in need of several more volunteers to read a book to a small group of children and help them complete a short activity. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade volunteers would need to be present from 12:15 PM to 1:40 PM, and 4th and 5th grade volunteers from 12:00 PM -12:40 PM. Please email melinda.turner880@gmail.com or mary@wicklein.org to let us know what day you can volunteer! Looking forward to Book Club!
