Warrior News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
May 29, 2020
Hey, Warrior Nation,
This week has been an inspiring reminder of the power of perspective. Throughout these past two weeks, I have had the privilege of having some powerful interactions with our seniors and their families as we filmed our virtual graduation. As I’m sure you can imagine, there were a broad range of emotions all around. It would have been easy for our students and families to have come up with a list of missed opportunities as a result of the pandemic. In fact, it would have been understandable. It would have been completely understandable if that was their focus. However, that was in no way the case. Yet again, our Warriors demonstrated that we are not defined by our circumstances, but rather it is our true character that shines through in spite of those circumstances. My heart overflowed with joy and pride as senior after senior expressed their gratitude and appreciation for what their journey through MHS has meant to them. The expression of appreciation for their teachers, advisors, coaches, staff, and the family who cared for and supported them along the way was inspiring. Another common theme shared with profound wisdom was the need to take time to appreciate what you have because things can change in an instant or at the very least, will go by much faster than you ever realize. One final theme I wanted to share was that a number of students and families commented that as difficult as this spring has been, it has created the gift of time together as a family before their “baby” heads off to their next endeavors in life. The powerful interactions with each graduating senior and family reminded me that we all have the opportunity to find the positive in any situation. Perspective has the power to shape so much of how we approach everything in our lives.
Make this final stretch count as we are quickly approaching exams and the final week of school.
Rally together as a family. Celebrate all that has been overcome during this stretch and make the most of this time. Better days are ahead. We are Warriors and we are Muskego Strong.

TEALS Volunteers Needed
Muskego High School is excited to continue to offer computer science courses next year. We are investing in our students by partnering with Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS to build and grow our CS program. There are more than 500,000 open computer science positions without qualified talent to fill them across all industries. We are trying to help ensure our students have access to the necessary education to ensure a successful future for them.
Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS is a program that recruits, mentors, and places passionate technology professionals into high school classrooms as volunteer instructors. These volunteers bring subject matter expertise and will join Ms. Joan Buske to teach computer science together. TEALS provides training for both parties, rigorous curricula, and opportunities for students to continue their education outside of the classroom.
We are offering “Introduction to Computer Science” and "AP Computer Science A." The introductory class is based on the award-winning University of California Berkeley CS10 course and is adapted specifically for high schools. AP Computer Science A is an advanced computer science course offering students the opportunity to earn college credit. As a TEALS partner school, Muskego High School needs to assist with volunteer recruitment from the computer science and software engineering fields to team-teach these courses with our teachers. Muskego High School will hold AP Computer Science A first period, 7:25 am - 8:15 am and Introduction to Computer Science, second period, from 8:20 am -9:10 am, which will allow volunteers to attend their jobs afterward.
If you or someone you know works in the computer science or software engineering field and would be interested in making a difference in our students’ future success, please contact me at 262-888-0597 or via email at ken.dunbar@muskegonorway.org
You can read more about TEALS on their website at http://www.tealsk12.org. I am excited about these opportunities and look forward to hearing from you.

ACT Announcement regarding June Test Date
All students registered for the June ACT test will receive an email today (5/29) with the following info:⠀⠀
- Your test center's availability for June 13⠀
- Options for rescheduling⠀
- Refund instructions⠀
For those who wish to reschedule:⠀
Please reference your email to see your testing status & instructions on how to reschedule. Most should be able to reschedule through their student web account. If you do not see this option, please contact us for assistance.⠀
For those that wish to receive a refund:
No problem. Reach out to our Customer Care team, and we'll help you complete your refund.⠀
Wait times may be longer than normal as we help students and families. We thank you in advance for your patience.⠀
✅ There were instances in which test centers had to reduce their capacity, and it caused some students to be displaced.⠀ACT prioritized students in 12th grade, followed by students in 11th grade, and then looked at the order in which a student registered for the ACT test.⠀
We will continue to coordinate with test site administrators and CDC, state government, and local public health guidelines to determine availability up until test day.⠀
If your testing status changes, you will receive an email from ACT with the update and instructions.⠀
