Principal's Message

Hello Dewey Families!

Everyday when I leave work in the evening there is always someone at Dewey who is enjoying our campus. Families playing on the playground, kids riding bikes, baseball teams practicing - our school is definitely utilized by our community. We are grateful that our neighbors look after our campus after hours and when school is not in session. Just as our neighbors take care of Dewey, we want to take care of our neighbors.

To help make Dewey and our surrounding neighbors safe we are asking for your help. Although we try to move the carline as fast as possible, traffic does back up on Falcon. To support the homeowners in the neighborhood, please remember to:

  • Abide by the speed limit

  • Avoid blocking driveways so that homeowner are able to enter and exit

  • Be patient, we promise to get your child to class

Our district’s Safe Routes to School Officer was out visiting the campus last week to observe our traffic patterns and routines. She will continue to work with us to help improve the safety and flow of traffic in the neighborhood. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your support.

Have a wonderful week!

Warmest regards,

Sabrina Parsley, Principal

Free COVID testing for Students

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help protect the health and safety of students, staff and those around them, San Juan Unified offers asymptomatic COVID-19 testing for students and employees. While Sacramento County is on the red or purple tiers of the state’s COVID-19 risk assessment system, testing locations will be made available. Please note that these testing locations are open only for students and employees, family members may not be tested at this time. All testing is voluntary and there is no cost to the individual being tested.

Parents or guardians must complete the registration process for students age 13 and under and are strongly encouraged to complete the process for older students as well. Registration is only required once and does not need to be redone for later tests.

SJUSD will be holding COVID testing at Cameron Ranch on Tuesday, 5/18) from 11:30-2:00 and the District Office on Wednesday (5/19) from 7:00-1:30.

SJUSD Face Covering Policy Remains in Effect

On May 13, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced new recommendations related to vaccinated individuals and face coverings.

Because schools must follow state and local requirements, and they have not yet adopted these new recommendations, San Juan Unified’s face covering policy remains in effect and all individuals on school grounds must continue to use face coverings. Should the state and local requirements be changed, the district will review and adjust its policies as well.
