February 2023

A Month of Celebrations

February is a month packed full of celebrations! We have National Counseling Week, National Kindness Month, Black History Month, Mardi Gras, and we wrap it up with Read Across America Week! We have some great activities planned for this month and hope you will be able to join us! If you have not conferenced with your child's teacher, please reach out to them. Students have updated their WIGs-Wildly Important Goals, and they are ready to lead their conference with you and their teacher. Please be sure to contact him/her through e-mail or Remind to set up your conference time.

Don't forget to book your Student Led Conference with your child's teachers!

Goal Setting for ACAP Preparation

Our students set WIGs, their Wildly Important Goals, in January with the assistance of their teachers. These were determined based upon their STAR Reading and Math Scores as well as their personal interests. Teachers took a half day to work one on one with your children to help them establish their goals. These are areas that will help them prepare for their ACAP. ACAP practice is taking place in classrooms daily, so our children will be ready to blow the top off the ACAP! The ACAP shows all they learned and helps determine their proficiency level in reading and math. This also drives the need for Summer Camp needs and meeting the requirements for the Alabama Literacy Act and the Alabama Numeracy Act. Please ask your child about their WIG setting day with their teachers. They are in their Leadership Portfolios that your child will share with you during teacher conferences. Conferences should only take 20-30 minutes. This is also a great opportunity for students to share their celebrations and to share concerns.
