Public Health Overview
This past week the Commissioner shared during his Tuesday call information related to a TEA Public Health Operational Guidebook. In the powerpoint presentation it was stated that ESCs would provide additional assistance related to the released Guidebook. Below are two links related to the information shared last week. The first link is the Guidebook that contains general information along with a set of scenarios. The second link is the answer key for each scenario.
The third link is a nine (9) minute video that Lisa Scilio our new School Nurse Specialist produced over the weekend for your use. LIsa condensed the information and included a walk through of a scenario that appears in the Guidebook.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if we can provide any additional information. Hope this information is of assistance to you.

Next meeting scheduled for AUGUST 27th. Mark your calendars to receive updates for campus and district leaders all in one place.
LEADERSHIP
- T-TESS: Given the increase in virtual classrooms and requests from districts statewide, TEA is developing an aligned T-TESS rubric that isolates relevant, high-leverage practices in virtual instruction settings. We anticipate this resource to be available in September. We will be providing UPDATE training for teachers as well as a separate session for administrators in September. More info soon
- TIA: 3800=Total number of teachers who earned a designation for 2020-2021. 2300 Recognized Designated 1000 Explempary Designated, and 400 Master Designated Teachers.

The TRS state team will pair the Texas Home Learning 3.0 resources with the units of TRS as soon as THL 3.0 is released. We encourage you to use your Year-at-a-Glance (YAG) to plan for instruction and integrate additional materials as they become available.
Remember to use the Gap Implementation Tools to plan for instructional scaffolding throughout the 2020-21 school year. Let these tools guide the way in closing the gaps in areas of missed instruction.
Language Arts
We will be removing the “NEW” tag from all K-8 documents where applicable. We will also be taking down the “old” high school documents and publishing the new ones into the “live” system. The documents will continue to be available in the Resources section until everything is published in the dynamic system. We will also be removing all of the “old” high school assessment passages and items. Once those are removed, we will start publishing Unit 1 items. Unit 2s high school assessments will be published over the next few weeks.
Mathematics
TEA is currently holding focus groups to collect feedback regarding the new assessment item types. These samples will be released soon.
Science
New STAAR item types are being developed and TEA is actively seeking feedback from educators in a variety of ways. If you would like to be included in a focus group, please visit the following link: TEA Committee Educator Application. We expect these item samples will be made public sometime in the future.
Social Studies
All of social studies is live and ready for the 2020-21 school year! Tweaks to secondary are complete. The transition of elementary curriculum and assessment to the streamlined standards is complete. Please use the feedback system when you find something off or missing. The one-piece still unfinished is the unified K-12 Conceptual Vertical Alignment Document (VAD). The document is in draft phase but requires a new VAD site be designed to accommodate the conceptual nature. We will release a draft version as a spreadsheet in the resources section of the platform.
