Dear Watertown Middle School Community,

Happy Sunday! I hope you all are having an enjoyable long weekend.

This will be my final WMS Community Bulletin as Principal of Watertown Middle School. I will see many of you over the next few days of school, but I wanted to be sure and say an enormous THANK YOU for welcoming me into your community four years ago and granting me the honor of meeting and working with your amazing children. Watertown is such a special community with so much to offer its students, and I have truly enjoyed my time at WMS. I look forward to hearing of the many successes of Watertown students in the future. I wish you all the best and know that WMS will continue to grow stronger every day.

A tradition in 8th-grade reading classes is to reach out to younger members of our community and share the love of reading. Students in Ms. Zuckerberg and Ms. Braese's 8th-grade reading class worked in small groups to select age-appropriate books that featured elements of plot that would capture the interest of 4 and 5-year-olds. Each group recorded a virtual audiobook to share with preschool students from Four Seasons Preschool in Watertown. 8th graders included comprehension questions that prompted the preschoolers to pause the video and discuss the book with their classmates. 8th graders also wrote cards and letters to introduce themselves to the preschoolers. The preschoolers loved asking the "big kids" questions and sent thoughtful notes and drawings back to their 8th-grade buddy. A few 8th graders got to say, "hello" to former preschool teachers they had! It was a great "virtual" literacy field trip for all involved!
