We need your toilet paper tubes!

The second graders will be making bats to turn our 2nd grade hallway into a spooky "bat cave" for Halloween. Please send yours in by October 1st! Any extras are always welcome.

What's coming up?


-We have been working on Daily 5 Components: Reading to Self, Reading to Someone and Working on Writing.

-We read from our Basal books and continue to focus on our reading strategies and comprehension skills


-We finish chapter 1 this week and will review and assess

-we start flexible grouping next week with chapter 2 which focuses on addition within 20, place value, comparing numbers, and skip counting (number sense)


-we plan on wrapping up our Space Unit this week. There will be a review before the assessment.

Social Studies

-Unit on Geography

-Land forms and map skills

-creating a mini landform


-punctuation and complete sentences

As always, thank you in advance for all your help at home! Reading, practicing math facts, and review spelling words are very beneficial to your child's success at school!

Special Guest To Second Grade!!

Jan Gibbons, a former teacher working now for the Farm Bureau, will be coming to teach an interactive lesson this month on apples. Included in her lesson will be a read aloud and a culminating craft activity. Our students have loved her lessons in previous years and we are very excited to welcome her back to Madison this year!
