Event Information
Depreciation Lands Museum
Agenda:
- 11:45 am-12:00 pm-Arrival, Sign In, and Payment Collection
- 12:00 pm-1:00 pm-Lunch (Please bring a bagged lunch-no nut products due to allergy concerns). During this time they will bring out some children's games from long ago.
- 1:00 pm-3:00 pm-Brief history of the Depreciation Lands, and how they got their unusual name. We will then take a tour of their settlers’ village before going “home” to the log house. We will learn how to do everyday chores, such as gathering firewood and kindling, sweeping and gathering eggs. We will also learn to shell and grind corn for cornbread, a staple food for the settlers. After eating a pioneer snack, we will return to the Covenanter Building and make a toy from the empty corncobs, which you will keep!

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will learn about the early years of European settlement in the Depreciation Lands
- Students will live for a few hours as settlers’ children, in the late 1700’s (Seeing how they dressed, completing chores, cooking, and more!)
- Students will create a toy from the time period to keep
- Students will learn to shell and grind corn for cornbread, a staple food for the settlers and eat it for a snack!
Reminders for PA Virtual Events:
- An adult chaperone must stay on-site for all PA Virtual events.
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- All PA Virtual events are smoke-free.
- Pets should never be brought to PA Virtual events.
- To limit the spread of possible flu, please do not attend a PA Virtual event if you have had a fever within 24 hours of the event.
- In consideration of our students with allergies, please refrain from bringing balloons or food containing nut products
