Edgenuity Reminder

If you are currently enrolled in an Edgenuity marking period recovery course, please remember that your work must be completed by January 27, 2023. Students must earn a 60% RELATIVE grade in order to recover marking period 1. If you have questions, please email Ms. Bridges (kjbridges@smcps.org)

Guest Speaker: Jeff Yalden

On Thursday, January 12, Leonardtown High School will welcome Jeff Yalden, a teen motivational speaker to speak to our students and staff. Mr. Yalden will speak at two assemblies for students and one for staff after school.


The schedule is as follows:

- Period 2: Grades 9 and 12

- Period 4: Grades 10 and 11


All students should report to class as usual and an announcement will be made to be dismissed to the gymnasium.

School Improvements

The Student Leadership Council is working towards making LHS a better learning environment. We would like all of LHS' input and ask that you list any ideas to improve certain aspects of our school. These ideas could be tangible or more abstract depending on what you feel needs enhancement. We may ask a few of you to come to one of our meetings and discuss these concerns. If you are interested in purchasing a 2022-2023 yearbook, please visit the Jostens site. This offer will be available until February 24. After that, sales will close. Yearbooks will be distributed in the spring.

We are in need of pictures for some of our spreads! Click here for specifics regarding what pictures we still need. The list has been updated! Please upload pictures directly to our Yearbook website using ReplayIt. Please do not submit screenshots of pictures or pictures with filters. Please make sure all students featured in the pictures are identified with first and last name and grade level. Please make sure that the pictures are from this summer and this school year!


2021-2022 Yearbooks

The 2022 yearbooks are here! Students may pick up their yearbooks during lunch in 2E08. If you are a 2022 graduate of LHS, you or someone you designate may pick up your book during regular hours (8:00-2:45) to retrieve your book. Please email Mrs. Page before you plan on picking up your book to ensure that it is in the office waiting for you.

Counseling Corner

StudyPoint’s webinar, “Understanding Your PSAT Score, the Testing Calendar, and Test-Optional Policies,” will be hosted live on December 7th at 8:00pm ET / 5:00pm PT. To help families understand the PSAT score report, a group of experts will walk through what each component of the report means and how to use it to guide test preparation. You can learn more and register for the webinar here (if you register but cannot attend the live session, we’ll send you a recording of the event).

Students may also be interested in taking an SAT or ACT practice test before the end of the year. To view StudyPoint’s free practice test dates and register, click here.


PSAT scores are available on College Board, students need to log into their account to find their report.

If you need a letter of recommendation from your school counselor, please use this link, Student Recommendation Request, make a copy of this google document and then share it with your counselor once you have completed it. Please include a resume as well to your counselor. Counselors are not included in your teacher recommendations for common applications, our letters are considered “Counselor Evaluations.”

AP Testing Reminders

Reminder of Test Change Fee

If you want to cancel or add an AP test to your order, there is a $40 late fee. Please contact Ms. Bridges, the AP Testing Coordinator, (kjbridges@smcps.org) if you have questions about or need to make changes to your test order.


Deadline for Accommodations Requests

To take an AP Exam with accommodations, a student must be approved for accommodations by the College Board SSD office. That means if you have a school-approved plan for assessment accommodations (504 or IEP), you must also apply for College Board accommodations for testing. The deadline for you to apply for testing accommodations for AP testing is January 13, 2023. You must contact Mr. McClure-Hewitt (kehewitt@smcps.org) for consent forms. If you are not sure if you already have College Board approved accommodations, please contact our SSD coordinator, Mrs. Kiernan (mnkiernan@smcps.org).


Tech Center Info. & Updates

In case you missed it, watch the Tech Center Video Tour that showcases all of the programs and electives at the JAFCTC. If you have any questions, please contact the Tech Center counselor, Mrs. Bishop, at the Tech Center or seek out your high school counselor.


If you were unable to join one of the meet & greets, the next opportunity is to attend the Tech Expo night on Thursday, January 19th from 5:30-8:00PM. This is part of the application requirement in order to be accepted into one of the two or three year programs. It is not a requirement for an elective course.

2023 Elks Skilled Trade Scholarship

This scholarship is for students applying to a Trade School or Two-year program. Deadline is March 15th.


Delegate Brian Crosby Scholarship, March 15th deadline.


St. Mary's County BECA Scholarship Application is tentatively scheduled to open Jan. 7th.

One-Lunch Updates

Sign Up for Math Tutoring

The LHS Math Club will be offering peer tutoring on Mondays during B Lunch in room E11. All students seeking tutoring should complete the form by click this button.

Want to use the gym during lunch? Daily completion of the form above is a requirement for entry. Submissions are accepted from 8 to 11 am. You have to use your SMCPS login to access the form. After your initial submission, save the link for quick and easy access. Only fifty students are permitted to sign up for a lunch block (either A or B). Students are expected to enter the gym through the side door adjacent to the girls locker room and be in the gym before the 10 minute bell. Students unlawfully tardy will be redirected to the cafeteria. Students are expected to remain in the gym, no food or drink is allowed and you must have tennis shoes to be on the gym surface.
What bus do I ride? When will the bus pick me up?

Bus Passes:

Bus passes should only be requested when students have a change in physical address or when there is an emergency situation and a student needs to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop. Bus passes will not be granted for students simply wanting to go visit with a friend.


Need to obtain a bus pass?

Parents can write a note or send an email to Ms. Revis at btrevis@smcps.org in order to request a bus pass. All relevant information must be included in the written request.


Bus Information includes: Student name, address, parent phone number, existing bus stop to be used, bus #, date, medical concerns, destination address, destination phone # and reason for the pass

New for 2022, families have the option to pay for lost or damaged resources in My School Bucks. A resource can include: library books, laptops, chargers, textbooks, consumables, etc.


When a media specialist marks anything as lost or damaged in Destiny, that fee AUTOMATICALLY shows up as a "real time fee" in My School Bucks.
