Acceptable Use Policy
Ms. D's Class 2013-2014
~COMPUTER/INTERNET USE POLICY~
Both parent and student must read the policy below, print and sign the agreements on page 2 and return to me. I am pleased to have Internet access for my students that will provide vast and unique resources. My goal in providing this service is to promote educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, collaboration and communication. With access to computers and people all over the world, also comes the availability of material that may not be of educational value to our students or considered inappropriate. The Albuquerque Public School District has worked diligently to make a “good faith” effort to restrict access to controversial materials. If an APS user violates any provisions, his/her account will be terminated and future access could possibly be denied. The signature(s) on page 2 is (are) legally binding and indicate the party (parties) who signed has (have) read the terms and conditions carefully and understand(s) their significance.
~ INTERNET TERMS AND CONDITIONS ~
ACCEPTABLE USE: The purpose of the Internet in my classroom is to support testing, research and education in and among academic institutions by providing access to unique resources and the opportunity for collaborative work.
PRIVILEGES: The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges. The system administrator and I will deem what is inappropriate use and their/my decision is final. Also, the system administrator and or myself may close an account at any time as required.
NETWORK ETIQUETTE/RULES AKA NETIQUETTE: You are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette. These include (but are not limited to) the following:
· Be polite. Do not get abusive in your messages to each other.
· Use appropriate language. Do not swear, use vulgarities, or any other inappropriate language.
· Illegal activities are strictly forbidden.
· NEVER reveal your personal address or phone number to anyone.
· Electronic mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed to be private and many times contains harmful computer viruses. Students are NOT allowed to send/receive personal e-mail from school computers.
· Downloading, posting, reproducing or distributing music, photographs, video or other works in violation of applicable copyright laws. Any music, photographs and/or video should only be downloaded for classroom, and not personal purposes. If students are unsure whether or not they can use a work, they should request permission from the copyright or trademark owner.
· NEVER engage in plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking the ideas or writings of others and presenting them as if they were original to the user.
RULE/PROCEDURES FOR WEB 2.0 TOOLS
Web 2.0 tools such as blogs, wikis and networking sites enable users to generate online content very easily. While there are genuine reasons to be cautious using these tools, there are compelling reasons to use the tools in an educational setting. Using District approved software enables Web 2.0 tools to be used in a manner that maximizes the benefits while minimizing the concerns.
- Use District supported software to create blogs and wikis for students to use and/or view.
- Only use District supported learning networking sites to provide opportunities for students to collaborate with other students both locally and globally.
Check the APS website for a list of District approved Web 2.0 tools. Please check with Ms. D. to submit any other tools for consideration.
NO WARRANTIES: APS makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing and will not be responsible for any damages suffered. Use of any information obtained via the Internet is at your own risk. APS specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services.
