4T VIRTUAL CONFERENCE ON DIGITAL WRITING COMING IN OCTOBER!
The 4T Virtual Conference on Digital Writing focuses on the research, pedagogy, and tools of writing in digital spaces in the K-12 classroom.
Throughout the virtual sessions, participants will explore the complexities of teaching writing in a digital age in which students potentially play the role of writer, multimedia creator, collaborator, publisher, reader/viewer/audience member, and critic during their online engagement both during and outside of school. This four-day event also provides a space for dialogue between K-12 and university educators about the ways that the teaching of writing is enacted in schools, colleges, workplaces, and communities.
Writing invitations are from are educators from K-12 and higher education who have expertise to offer virtually via Blackboard Collaborate. All sessions will be recorded and archived for access by educators who can not attend synchronously.
Partners of the conference include the University of Michigan School of Education, the National Writing Project, and multiple Writing Projects of Michigan sites: Oakland Writing Project, Chippewa River Writing Project, Saginaw Bay Writing Project, Red River Writing Project, and Northern Shores Writing Project. Our hope is that this conference will foster collaboration between Writing Project Teacher Consultants from across the state as well as invite more literacy educators into the Writing Project fold.

Free conference on economic data for librarians in November!
Can't get enough data? Consider attending the Beyond the Numbers - "The Data Ecosystem" conference, November 7-9, 2018,the third biennial conference on economic information at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Speakers from the Census, World Bank, Board of Governors, and the OECD are enthusiastic about meeting with librarians. With a focus on practical information and data literacy, this will be a worthwhile program for all who attend. The conference is free and the presentations are terrific (lunch provided, too!). "The data ecosystem" encompasses all the institutions and people involved in the production, management, and use of economic data, from the newest undergraduate student to the seasoned librarian to the venerable economist. This conference will bring together librarians, information professionals, data researchers, and data managers to improve understanding of economic resources and how to find, use, and share them. We encourage users, creators, curators, and managers of economic, business, and financial information to share their expertise and provide insights into the challenges they face.
The Preliminary Schedule and Registration are available on the conference website, https://research.stlouisfed.org/conferences/beyond-the-numbers/.
