Ellettsville Library Opens Monday, Feb. 25th!

The Ellettsville Branch Library will reopen on Monday, February 25 at 10 AM.

Improvements include a new preschool room, a dedicated teen space, an expanded program room to accommodate large meetings of up to 125 people, a beautiful bay window with a new seating area, and new and improved ADA-compliant restrooms and parking lot.

“The Library is delighted to reopen our Ellettsville Branch and excited to provide the community with these open, bright, and relaxing new spaces,” said Marilyn Wood, Library Director. “We know the wait has been long, but it was well worth the wait.”

During the Branch’s closure, the Library partnered with The Endwright Center and Smithville Communications to provide temporary space for continuing services and materials drop off.

  • The last day of temporary services at The Endwright Center will be Saturday, February 23.

  • The last day of full Bookmobile service at Smithville Digital Warehouse will be Friday, February 22. The 24-hour temporary materials drop will be removed on Sunday, March 3.

To coincide with the reopening, the library will also expand its video game collection to include adult video games for the PlayStation 4, Xbox 1, and Nintendo Switch. Between the Main and Ellettsville branches, the Library will now offer close to 1,000 games.

The new Teen Space will feature much of what The Ground Floor teen space at the Main Library does, including a DIY design studio with art supplies, board games and puzzles, video games, cozy spots, books, and more. The Teen Space hours will be Monday–Thursday 3–9 PM, Friday 3–6 PM, Saturday Noon–6 PM, and Sunday 1–5 PM.

“The space provides a cool place for local teens to participate in library programs and hang out,” said Kim Baker, Ellettsville’s new Teen and Digital Creativity Community Engagement Librarian. “It also illustrates how much we welcome and value teens as members of the greater Library community.”

The Ellettsville Branch has always been a family destination, and the children’s room was getting crowded with many programs outgrowing the program room. “With the new colorful Preschool Room connected to the current children’s space, families will be able to comfortably play and read amid the new toys and bookshelves,” said Stephanie Holman, Community Engagement Librarian. “The expanded meeting room will enable us to bring in large presenters like children’s book author and Grammy award-winning artist Bill Harley, who will be celebrating with us on Sunday, April 14 from 2–3 PM.

A Grand Reopening Ceremony in which patrons can tour the new teen space, preschool room, and meeting rooms while enjoying refreshments, musical performances, and activities will take place on March 21 from 5–8 PM.

Other reopening celebrations include a professional puppet show on March 15 from 2:30–3:30 PM, Youth Art Month displays, and an after-hours laser tag event for teens on April 6 from 7–10 PM.
