Schlegel Safari Newsletter
May 2021
Schlegel Families,
We are off to a great start with the re-entry plan and shift in the hybrid learning platform. Thank you to the families that have sent me emails applauding the efforts of the Schlegel Staff. We look forward to the positive notes as they keep us grounded in the importance of our role-educating the whole child which includes their physical, social, emotional, and academic progress. I encourage you to continue emailing your child(ren)'s teacher with words of encouragement and gratitude. Feel free to include us or just email us-we love to celebrate these messages!
A few changes for you to note since we put the reentry plan in place:
* If you see CONES in the driveway,
* please park in the large lot and walk up to the Main Entrance. We are using the
driveway and "Whisker's Island" for students to have Specials Recess and lunch-
weather permitting of course!
* and are picking up lunch, you may park along the cones closer to the smaller
driveway to walk up and pick up your lunch.
* and need to pick up items in the Main Entrance, you may park along the cones closer
to the smaller driveway to walk up and pick you the items.
* Special Recess happens for each class once or twice a week. This gives us the ability to have half the class go to Music while the other half goes to Specials Recess every other week. The entire class has Specials Recess once a week.
Classes are eating in the Dining Room OR with classmates in their classroom area OR outside weather permitting. Students are enjoying eating their lunch while chatting with their friends. How wonderful and refreshing it is to have students socializing more often!
Please be sure to complete the Daily Health Screening everyday using the Pikmykid app. This helps us get the day started more efficiently. If you do forget, your child reports to the nurse's station outside of the nurse's office for a temperature check.
Thanks to the PTSA for making Teacher Appreciation week special- remember, a little note from you or your child(ren) is a cherished treasure for the Schlegel Staff!
The process for 2021-2022 placement has begun! An email was sent to the Schlegel families on Friday, April 30. Please complete the form by Friday, May 14. We appreciate your input.
With smiles,
Dr. Francine Leggett and Mrs. Kate Hesla
Principal and Assistant Principal
Message from the Office regarding lunch pickup/Notes to School
We are asking that you call the office if you are picking up your child early from school instead of sending in notes for the remainder of this school year.
A note from the Health Office
Beginning on January, 31, physical examinations conducted on or after January 31, 2021 for school must be documented on the NYS Required Health Examination form or an electronic health record equivalent form.
Below are links to the required form and instructions for the health care provider. They are also available on the district Health Office webpage (https://www.websterschools.org/districtpage.cfm?pageid=834). Please share these forms with your child’s health care provider. This typically is your child’s doctor, but also may be a nurse practitioner or a physician's assistant.

DAILY HEALTH SCREENINGS
As we are planning for school returning to a full day, the health office is requesting that you please complete your child’s daily health screening every morning, before they leave for school. The mandatory health screening needs to be done at home by parents/guardians.
PikMyKid can be used via the app or by visiting the website:https://parentapp.pikmykid.com. The app is available for download at your smartphone’s app store (Google-Play or iTunes). Once the app is downloaded, choose “Register” and follow the prompts to sign your child(ren) up. If you have any questions, please contact support@pikmykid.com or call 813-864-7627.
Instructions for registering for PikMyKid and completing the daily health screening are on the attached pages.
If you have questions, please call the Schlegel Health Office (585)216-6023.
Illness Guidelines and Returning to School
Please remember to keep your child home from school if they are experiencing new, unusual, or worsening symptoms that are associated with COVID-19. These symptoms include:
· Lethargy, fatigue
· Cough
· Chills, Shivers
· Body or Muscle aches
· Headache
· Sore throat
· Nasal Congestion, Runny Nose
· New Loss of Taste or Smell
· Nausea, Vomiting
· Diarrhea
You will need to call the attendance line (265-2513) to notify the school that they are home sick. You will also need to have your child evaluated by a healthcare provider within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. They may recommend that your child needs a COVID test, or determine that the symptoms are due to an alternate diagnosis/chronic medical condition. Before your child is able to return to school, the health office will need to have a copy of the test results, a doctor’s note with the test results, or a doctor’s note with an acceptable alternate diagnosis/chronic medical condition. Additionally, your child’s symptoms will need to be significantly improved and they will need to be fever free (<100℉) for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. Please do not send your child to school until you have gotten a phone call from the health office to notify that we have received the required documents and your child is cleared to return to school.
If the testing result is positive, please notify the building principal or nurse immediately.
Contact the Health Office with any questions (216-6023)
Thank you for helping us to keep Schlegel happy, healthy, and safe!
Domestic Travel Quarantine Changes
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on March 11th that domestic travelers will no longer be required to quarantine after entering New York from another U.S. State or U.S. Territory starting April 1st. While no longer required, the NYS Department of Health still recommends quarantine after domestic travel as an added precaution. Mandatory quarantine remains in effect for international travelers. All travelers must continue to fill out the Traveler Health Form. Individuals should continue strict adherence to all safety guidelines to stop the spread such as wearing masks, socially distancing and avoiding gatherings.
Since April 1st falls during our Spring Break, how does this affect Webster staff and students who travel to another state during this time? Asymptomatic individuals who return to NYS during Spring Break after domestic travel will not need to quarantine or present proof of testing out of quarantine to the District before returning to school unless directed to do so by the DOH.
Students and staff returning to school after traveling to a non-contiguous state before March 27th, must follow the current travel advisory guidelines. Per the NYSDOH, all individuals returning from travel must:
● Continue daily symptom monitoring through Day 14; AND
● Continue strict adherence to all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions, including hand hygiene and the use of face coverings, through Day 14 (even if fully vaccinated); AND
● Must immediately self-isolate if any symptoms develop and contact their healthcare provider to report this change in clinical status and determine if they should seek testing. Parents should notify their child’s school nurse.
There are no changes in requirements for individuals who develop symptoms associated with COVID-19. Symptomatic students and staff must stay home from school, seek a medical evaluation and undergo COVID-19 testing if determined to be needed by the healthcare provider in conjunction with DOH criteria. Students may not return to school until cleared by the school nurse. Staff should contact their supervisor.
