Message from Superintendent Cybulla
Dear ECSD Families,
There have been new experiences as we navigated these past eleven weeks; meeting the needs of students, working with all of the safety protocols and learning new ways to connect. While this has been challenging, ECSD rose to the challenge and excelled.
As we move to our next phase during the pandemic recovery, there will be many unknowns but what I do know is that our teachers and staff will continue to work hard for our students and families to find solutions for learning and to provide support. This Thanksgiving season will be different for sure but what will remain the same is our commitment to do the very best we can for our students and for that I am extremely grateful.
Take care of each other and be safe.
Sincerely,
Suzanne
Marine City Middle School Staff Spotlight
Staff Spotlight - Andy Scheel
Mr. Scheel is a 1992 graduate of Marine City High School and has been a counselor for the East China School District for 9 years, (following in his dad’s footsteps, who was also a school counselor at MCHS for 39 years). Mr. Scheel also coaches Varsity Football for Marine City High School. Before his role as counselor Mr. Scheel was a coach and substitute at Portage Northern High School, a teacher at Paw Paw Community Education and a teacher and coach at Clintondale High School.
When asked what he likes most about Marine City Middle School , he replied that helping kids work towards their potential and helping them become their own problem solvers is one of the most rewarding things about his job. Seeing kids happy in their learning environment is worth every minute of his job.
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa Scheel, who is a family physician in St. Clair, his two kids David and Nadia, and his Boston Terrier, Barry Sanders.

Throughout the month of November we have been thanking our Veteran’s for their service. They have joined us virtually, via phone, and in person to recite the Pledge of Allegiance with our staff and students. We have had a variety of Veteran’s representing all branches of the military join us this month. Jerry Socia from the Technology Department and Chris Niemasz from the Maintenance Department were two of our guest readers.
