Miss Vaughn's Class
Week of January 18-22
Reading- We have mastered Main Idea and the use of graphic organizers! This week we will focus on what it means to compare and contrast in books!
Math- We are working hard to finish Unit 6 focusing on Word Problems. Ask your child about our new Daily Math Challenge Problems and the strategies they use to solve them!
Writing- We are finding out how to teach our readers through "How To" books and also sneaking our opinions in there too!
Vocabulary- We have started focusing on 1st grade cognitive verbs in January! These are the words your child is learning this week:
PLEASE use them at home and ask your child to use them or their synonyms in their everyday speech! This will help their cognitive ability soar to new heights!
Science/Social Studies- We are super excited to start learning all about history including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and also about Living Communities focusing on Food Chains!
Leader in ME!- We are so getting very excited about our Leadership Day in March. We are also focusing on carrying our own weather in times where it might be tough. Ask your child how they are choosing to be "sunny" or "cloudy".
Our field trip is on Wednesday February 3! We are super excited to visit SLU and see a real basketball game and learn all about the way the athletes use leadership to help them succeed! PLEASE turn in the permission slip and $3.00 CASH by January 29. Lunch is provided by SLU for all students!
