From The PFC Co-Presidents
Happy Friday!
I hope everyone is taking advantage of today to honor our veterans who sacrificed for our country. Their dignity and courage help us push through as a nation. I (Shanyn) had the honor, along with Principal Daubenspeck and Mr. Wilkins, to attend the National Blue Ribbon Ceremony in Washington D.C. this week. It was an amazing experience to rub shoulders with the great innovators of education throughout the country. We represented for you Thornhill!
Having the honor of a National Blue Ribbon is in great part because of our staff and, of course, our wonderful Thornhill parent community. Please help us continue to be great and soar to new heights by joining us at our monthly PFC board meeting this coming Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m. Child care is provided to our Thornhill student body only. Please RSVP to president@thornhillschool.org.
As we get close to Thanksgiving (Shauna’s favorite holiday!) we wanted to express our gratitude for some of the people and things we’re thankful for:
· All the amazing teachers at Thornhill for their dedication to our students.
· Martin Spizman, for directing traffic every morning for the last 2+ years with his small group of volunteers – we are so thankful for your dedication to this essential job!
· Love and support from our families.
Have a great weekend,
Shanyn Lloyd-Gibson and Shauna Fithian

Fifth Grade Popcorn Fundraiser
Hello Thunderbirds,
Holidays are approaching fast and what a great way to start the upcoming festivities -- with delicious popcorn. Popcorn is no doubt a crowd pleaser, be it for parties, game night, or movie night with the family.
The 5th Grade Fundraiser is partnering with Popcorn Palace this year. They offer 13 varieties of deliciously popped and decorated popcorn to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. The 5th graders at Thornhill Elementary have a unique opportunity to take a trip to the Marin Headlands where they study environmental science, learn teamwork, and strengthen their connection with nature. One of the greatest things about the trip is that our students are called to action as they see up close the impact their actions have on the world around them, which inspires students toward lifelong stewardship.
On Monday Nov. 14, please check your child’s backpack for your order form and complete no later than Monday Nov. 28th. Please keep all order forms in the collection envelope provided and make all checks out to Thornhill Parent Faculty Club. We need these forms turned in so that we have Popcorn goodies to gift our family and friends this Holiday season. The goal is $75 of Popcorn sales per family for a profit goal of $7,000. A portion of these funds are earmarked for the 5th grade promotion into middle school, the yearbook and scholarships to the Marin Headlands.
Never allow young children to solicit orders alone. They should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please no door to door selling.
Thank you for your continued support!! Let’s go Thunderbirds!! Let's get popping!!

Class Photo Update
I heard many comments that all families received free class photos in previous years. Unfortunately that is no longer the case.
Only the families that ordered individual student photos will receive a class photo with their package. We are aware that some families did not get their group picture yet and we are awaiting the new shipment to come in. If a family would like to order just the class photo, they can do so next week, November 14-18. Stop by the office and complete an order form and submit a $12 payment (Check or cash only). Contact Christina with any questions.

Dads Club
Our One Warm Coat Donation Drive is on! Look for the big collection bin in the school lobby during the month of November. Dads Club is working with this national charity collecting clean, gently used coats of all types and sizes.
All coats collected by the Thornhill community will directly benefit local needs when we deliver them to Alameda County Social Services and East Oakland Youth Development Center. Make sure your kids know: they can help clean out your closets while giving to the less fortunate this holiday season. A warm coat can spread warmth to some of the 3.5 million people who experience homelessness each year. Thunderbirds, please help us make a difference…one coat at a time!
Dads Club’s next monthly social will be held at Montclair Golf Course. This Third Thursday outing is November 17, 8-9:30 p.m. at the driving range, so be sure to join us and don’t forget your clubs. If you would like to get more involved, plan to attend our planning committee meeting directly before, from 7-8 p.m. in the restaurant.
