Bouncing Back -- September 3, 2020

Big picture

Newsletter for the week--Part 1

Part 1 includes some timely need to knows!

Part 2 will be sent tomorrow. We will include a welcome video for the in-person kindergarten and first grade students joining us as well as in-person back to school reminders.

ONLY kindergarten and first grade students who chose in-person will begin school on September 8, 2020.

A FEW 2nd-5th grade students who selected IN-PERSON are also phasing in and joining us on September 8th if they meet certain criteria. See the detailed explanation below:

See below for specifics related to your grade level.

If you chose in person school for your child AND your child is in grades 2-5 AND your child is either (1) a child who receives special education services and currently has an IEP, (2) a child who has previously been identified as having no internet access or (3) a child of an employee of LISD, your child is eligible to return to school on September 8. Note that I said "eligible". A staff member will be reaching out to you to determine if you want your child to return on September 8 or if you want to wait until the rest of the grade level starts. If you know you fit in this category and you want to reach out to your child's special education teacher to let her know your plans, feel free to do so.

PLEASE NOTE that this applies to Special Education, and NOT students served by 504 plans.

All other students will return based on the phase. You may see the chart above.

I changed my mind about in-person or virtual -- what do I do?

Changes to in-person may only be made at the end of the 9 week grading period.

We have received some requests for a change from virtual to in person or from in person to virtual. We will handle those requests and follow up with the families who made them, but we want you all to know that we will not be allowing changes from virtual to in person or from in person to virtual unless there is a specific and verifiable need for that. An example might be a new health diagnosis in a family that makes moving to virtual necessary. Other requests will most likely be denied at this time.

Please know that our system is absorbing very large changes right now, and the capacity to make what may seem to you a small change for one child is not something that we are able to do at this point in time.

Nurse -- Medications

We have a new nurse, Lindsay Kreienheder. She is excited to join RPE and has been working with our District Nurse to plan for a safe return.

If you need to drop off medications for your student, you will need to make an appointment with Nurse Lindsay. You may email her at lindsay.kreienheder@leanderisd.org.

How will your kinder or 1st grade child get home?

Until our new program (School Dismissal Manager) is up and running, we will be using a google form to collect information on how your child will be going home. Please complete this form so that we can make plans for a smooth dismissal next week!

Remember, all students arriving and leaving in a vehicle should be driven through the car rider lane. To help speed up the pick up line, please display your child's name and homeroom teacher on your front dashboard.

Safety Updates

The Covid Response Handbook was updated yesterday. Updates are clearly marked in red. One update includes clarification on PPE. Please note that masks must not be vented, and note that gaiters are not a substitute for a mask (gaiters may be worn during outdoor activities).

We've created a reference document to clarify processes and procedures at RPE. This is a lengthy document, but it covers a lot of the questions many of our parents have regarding a safe return to school. Click HERE to access our RPE School Community Safety Protocols.

Finally, parents MUST complete a screener for their child assessing COVID-19 symptoms DAILY BEFORE they come to campus.

Parents will be REQUIRED to submit the completed form and submit it before coming to campus or boarding the bus.
