Answer the Question, Please!
"Concern: students not allowed to talk in the cafeteria.
Lunch time is one of the rare times we allow students to socialize with their peers on campus and this past week students were asked to quite down several times and/or silent lunch. The students weren't yelling or being overly loud, but when you have a full cafeteria with everyone eager to chat with their friend it IS going to sound loud. Also it wasn't teachers who are monitoring the lunch room requesting the students to not talk, but the cafeteria staff who say they can't do their job with all the talking."
Students are provided the opportunity to socialize with their peers during lunch time. It is highly encouraged they eat their lunch as well. Sometimes the cafeteria becomes too loud. This is why we have the PBIS expectations in place. Please review the expectations prior to entering the cafeteria. This will minimize the noise level and ensure people can and enjoy their friends. The staff on duty are monitoring students to maintain safety create an environment conducive to conversation for everyone. It will be important to train all staff members including Cafeteria staff in the PBIS Guidelines for Success.
