MENTAL HEALTH WEEK
Mental Health Awareness Week runs from May 2-8th. Mental Health Week is a Canadian tradition, with communities, schools and workplaces rallying to celebrate, protect and promote mental health. This year, the theme is empathy.
- When someone is struggling, you don’t have to fix their pain. Tune in and see through their eyes. This is empathy.
- You can understand even if you don’t agree. Understand someone’s feelings. This is empathy.
- We may be different but we’re not on different sides. See the world as others do. This is empathy.
The campaign calls for us to #GetReal about how we really feel and is based on the insight that people in Canada commonly ask one another how we are but that it is also common not to provide – or expect – a truthful answer. Many of us say we’re fine, even when we don’t mean it. ‘Fine’ keeps us at arm’s length from real social connections with others. Every time we just go through the motions, we miss a chance to connect with others in a meaningful way.
Each year, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental illness or mental health issue, but 5 in 5 Canadians have mental health—we all need social connection.
Pizza Days Are Back!

DAILY SELF SCREENING
Daily SELF-COVID Screening Procedures
All students MUST complete the Provincial COVID Screening Tool EVERY DAY continues to be a requirement for students, staff, visitors and volunteers. However, daily verification will no longer be required.
Students demonstrating any of the following symptoms are not permitted to attend school and parents will be notified to collect your child if symptoms present during the school day:
- Fever and/or Chills
- Cough or Barking Croup
- Shortness of Breath
- Decrease/Loss of Taste or Smell
- Runny Nose/Nasal Congestion
- Headache
- Extreme Fatigue
- Sore Throat
- Muscle Aches/Joint Pain
- Nausea, Vomiting and/or Diarrhea
Students experiencing symptoms (one bolded symptom or two non-bolded symptoms) are encouraged to take a Rapid Antigen Test or assume a positive result. Anyone who assumes or tests positive may not return to school until they are cleared according to Public Health guidance.
When Should People Mask in School?
-Cases eligible for a 5-day isolation period must continue to mask in public settings from Day 6 to 10 after testing positive or developing COVID-19 symptoms, whichever is earlier. In addition:
- reasonable exceptions include removal for essential activities like eating at work, school, or child care and maintaining as much distance as possible.
- individuals should avoid activities where mask removal may be necessary. This includes participating in sports or music activities where masks cannot be safely worn during this time period.
- individuals who are exempt from masking (e.g., children under two years of age) may return to public settings without masking.
-Close contacts who are not required to isolate must wear a mask in public settings for 10 days following their last exposure to a person with COVID-19. Similar exceptions as above for cases apply.

Kindergarten Registration
ARE YOU MOVING?
As planning will begin with respect to formulating classes and general school organization for the 2022-2023 school year, please inform the office as soon as possible if you are planning to move between now and September 2022. Also, if you have already moved and not informed the office of your new address, please do so immediately as our school records must be accurate at all times.
Direction of School Support
By directing your tax support to the Separate (Catholic) School System:
- You may vote for Catholic School Trustees in Municipal elections
- Your children may attend Catholic elementary schools
- You show your support for the Catholic school system
To verify that you are registered as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter:
- Check the assessment section of your Tax Bill or Property Assessment Notice
- Check your Voter Information Card received during an election year (2022)
Have you moved?
Even if you have been an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter in the past, the designation DOES NOT follow you when you relocate. By default, your property taxes support your municipality's English public school board. Every time you move or if there is a change of ownership, it is essential that you register yourself as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter.
To register as an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter or change your Direction of School Support, please contact the DPCDSB Admissions Department by phone at 905-890-0708 ext. 24512 or by email at admissions@dpcdsb.org.
