The Buzz
April 17 - 21
Welcome Back!
I hope you enjoyed every minute of your Spring Break whether you traveled, had a stay-cation, or simply relaxed. 😌 Just like Spring Break, this school year has flown by---because time flies when you're having fun! 😎
I just know this 4th and final quarter will be the greatest quarter yet at UCS! I personally challenge each of you to give everything you've got to ensure your student has the most growth and achievement in this last quarter. If your student has struggled some of the past 3 quarters, monitor them while they complete homework, help them study for assessments, seek out information from their teachers to help them succeed, and make sure they only miss school if they are sick. Also, set a strict bedtime if it's been loose all year and make sure they cut off screen time at least 1 hour before bedtime!
Research shows that all of the above strategies help students focus in school and make academic progress. Please reach out if you need assistance or advice on how to help your student have a successful 4th quarter. You've got this! 👍🏾

Notes from State of the School Meeting
2023-24 Goals include:
UCS plans to purchase land for future building.
Increase funding, particularly for capital campaigning
Finish our 10th straight year with a fiscally responsible budget
The educational landscape has suffered since Covid pandemic. UCS has to be intentional about teacher recruitment and retention
Financial Overview
Over $3.2 million in revenue (state, local, and federal)
70% of our expenses go towards salaries & benefits, 11% to rent, 5% contracted services, 5% to supplies and technology/equipment, 3% to facility upkeep
Our projected end of year balance is $62K
UCS is funded at 70% of what CMS and traditional public school districts receive
UCS pays over $300K in facility costs, whereas traditional public schools do not have building expenses. The county pays for their facilities.
Board just approved teacher license supplement at 10% increase if licensed. This will help with teacher recruitment and retention.
Facility Plans
We reviewed our facility acquisition and development team. We are looking to stay in the university area. Anything further than 5 miles from our current location will require us to get State Board approval
2023-24 Admin Staff Structure
Board of directors hired Erika as executive director. We will restructure to have 2 other directors to focus solely on the K-3 and 4-8 instructional teams.
