Lake Street Connection
May 6, 2022
Our team traveled with 30 suitcases full of medical supplies, items for soldiers, and the items we collected for the kids! Getting 30 suitcases into the airport was a struggle… but we made it!
When we arrived in Warsaw, two men from California met us at the airport to get the supplies for the soldiers. We gave them 7 suitcases full of men’s boots, socks, army first aid kids, 2 drones & more! They were going to deliver the suitcases to a Ukrainian couple who would then drive the supplies into Ukraine.
Our next stop was a refugee camp that has been housing up to 200 people at a time. We spent 3 days at the camp building relationships, encouraging the refugees, organizing their supply tent and unpacking 18 suitcases of medical supplies that we boxed and sent into Ukraine. We had a line of people waiting for the empty suitcases since many could not leave the camp without luggage to carry their belongings. At one point, I started putting out the kids’ crafts in the tent for them to grab. They were SO excited to receive stickers, paint, chalk and more! The donations collected from the Lake Street Community were very much appreciated!
When we left the camp, we traveled 6 hours across Poland to a foster village with over 40 children and only 8 mothers. At this point we were reunited with the kids my family hosted in past years and my heart exploded with JOY to hug them again. It was truly one of the happiest moments of my trip. We spent 2 days loving on those families & kids. We took the moms to get clothes (most of them were wearing the same thing day after day), unpacked another 5 suitcases full of vitamins/supplies for the children and put on an Easter Egg Hunt for all of the kids. They don’t do egg hunts in Ukraine or Poland, so we explained that it was a fun game where you find treasure inside the eggs- they couldn’t stop smiling!!!
We heard many stories and shared a lot of encouragement, while also spending moments crying over the obstacles these people are facing. This trip has opened my eyes and heart in new ways. There are still so many needs, but I’m so grateful for what we were able to do. I hope you enjoy the pictures and get a glimpse at some of the things we did!
Again- thank you to the Lake Street Community for supporting this and helping make this trip possible!
