CTE Internship 2014-2015
Sophia Kilby - Adult Day Care
What is the most important thing you learned when working with others? Describe a time you worked well with others, or a time that you struggled to work well with others.
In my internship, I learned how to work well as a team and build a family from strangers. I feel everyday we communicate well with each other and understand each other. We all have become very close over the past few months and I would not change that for the world. I learned to be patient and understanding; however, sometimes it was stressful to do so when working under pressure.
Describe a situation when you were really frustrated and explain how you dealt with it. What did you learn?
One situation I got frustrated over was when I was trying to assist a man to the restroom and no one would help me. This man is a larger man and it was very difficult for me to lift him by myself. I knew if I would have tried to continue by myself it could have hurt me or the man I was assisting. I went to get Reagan and she helped me after she had finished her tasks.

Explain how your experience at the internship will impact your high school and further education. Have any of your plans changed? How have they changed?
My experience gave me many more hours in a medical field situation. It made me think of how I would feel in a field like that and it changed my mind a little bit. I was shocked to be honest. I love the day care but I would not like to work there. I feel like I am better suited for home health or a nursing home.
Describe your internship site. Give the name, location, general surroundings, and what products or services they offer.
I interned at the Ruby Pardue Blackburn Adult Day Center in West Park. It is behind the YMCA Express and beside the Rehabilitation Center. All services depend on the individuals and the family.

Describe an activity or accomplishment in the internship that you are proud of. What did you learn from it?
I am proud that I have came so far in my internship. I stuck with it throughout the semester and I am also proud of that. But I am very proud that I gained new family members, new friends, and got to experience this. I hate to leave my members but they know they are always in my thoughts. I love each and everyone of them and this experience.
