Welcome to September!

School is in full swing here at Edison and there is a lot of exciting learning taking place! Thank you to all of you who attended our Back to School night. It was great to see many, now familiar, faces.

Here at Edison our goal is to have every student, every day, at school. Please help reach our 92% or higher attendance rate. Please refer to our attendance reminders in this newsletter. We love your kiddos and miss them when they are not here.

There are many exciting things coming up this month and we can't wait to see all the activities and programs that students will be involved in.

All D11 schools are required to have a School Accountability Committee.

What is that you ask?

Well, a SAC (School Accountability Commimitte) is a team of parents, community partners, and school-based staff that works to support decision making at the school level while providing the building principal with accountability oversight. The SAC meets monthly and regularly reviews the school budget, school data, and plans for the future. Anyone is welcome to attend a SAC meeting and provide feedback and thoughts.

Our challenge is to get a SAC Committee up and running here at Edison.

We will be offering meetings once a month, we will alternate morning and evening meetings to accommadate all parents.

Bueno, un SAC (Comité de Responsabilidad Escolar) es un equipo de padres, socios comunitarios y personal escolar que trabaja para apoyar la toma de decisiones a nivel escolar y al mismo tiempo proporciona al director del edificio supervisión de la rendición de cuentas. El SAC se reúne mensualmente y revisa periódicamente el presupuesto escolar, los datos escolares y los planes para el futuro. Cualquiera es bienvenido a asistir a una reunión del SAC y brindar comentarios e ideas.

Nuestro desafío es lograr que un Comité SAC esté funcionando aquí en Edison.

Ofreceremos reuniones una vez al mes, alternaremos reuniones por la mañana y por la tarde para acomodar a todos los padres.

Self-care, Kindness, Kindness in the Classroom lessons teach kindness skills through a step-by step framework of:

Inspire, Empower, Act, Reflect and Share.​

Welcome to our new school year! We are going to take these first few weeks to explore the concept of Respect. This means we think about how our words and actions affect our friends, our families, and anyone else we meet up with in our day. It’s so important to treat others with kindness and respect, even when we might not agree with what they are saying or doing. To help us learn how to do this, we are going to explore these areas:​

● Respecting ourselves, others, and our space!​

● Using respectful words in our conversations!​

● Practicing kind ways to problem solve during difficult times! It’s time to explore Respect!​

Edison PTA has been busy coming up with some events to put on for our students and families. We have been focusing on planning our yearly Chargerfest.

Chargerfest will be on October 7th from 11:00am to 1:00pm. We will have In and Out burger, Kona Ice, and Peak Crepes food truck available for families to purchase food along with a bunch of fun things including a color run and free games with prizes. We will also be having a silent auction. We are in the process of planning a trunk or treat at Edison.

We would love for our parents and families to join our PTA. This is a good way to build a relationship with the Edison teacher's, principal, and staff. It is $7.00 to join. If you would like to come to our next meeting it is Thursday September 21st at 5:00pm. We really hope to see you there.

La PTA de Edison ha estado ocupada organizando algunos eventos para nuestros estudiantes y familias. Nos hemos centrado en la planificación de nuestro Chargerfest anual.

El Chargerfest estará en marcha 7 de octubre de 11:00 a 13:00 horas. Tendremos el camión de comida In and Out Burger, Kona Ice y Peak Crepes disponibles para que las familias compren comida junto con un montón de cosas divertidas que incluyen una carrera de colores y juegos gratis con premios. También realizaremos una subasta silenciosa. Estamos en el proceso de planificar un baúl o un regalo en Edison.

Nos encantaría que nuestros padres y familias se unieran a nuestra PTA. Esta es una buena manera de construir una relación con los maestros, el director y el personal de Edison. Cuesta $7.00 unirse. Si desea venir a nuestra próxima reunión es Jueves 21 de septiembre a las 17:00 horas. Realmente esperamos verte allí.

Edison Elementary and the Board of Education stress the importance of regular attendance so each student will experience maximum benefit from the instructional program. Colorado State Law requires children, between the ages of six and seventeen, to attend school regularly. (C.R.S. 22-32-109 (1)(n), C.R.S. 22-33-101 et seq. (School Attendance Law) There are occasions when due to illness, injury, or emergencies, students must be absent from school. A call from the parent to the school attendance line (328-2800) on the morning of the absence is required. A note signed by the attending physician will assist us in excusing your child’s absence. You may request homework on the attendance line for the day of the absence if you call before 8:00 a.m. If homework is available, it will be left on the counter in the office and may be picked up as directed by the teacher. ALL ABSENCES MUST BE CALLED IN WITHIN 24 HOURS TO BE EXCUSED.

Any other absence must be requested in writing on a Request for Prearranged Absence form. Request for Prearranged Absence forms are available in the front office. The teacher will collect homework for your student during the absence. For each day of absence, students have an equal number of days to get the work turned in. We cannot give homework in advance. Please understand that it is not feasible to ask teachers to do extra preparation to accommodate individual vacation plans. If you have any questions about prearranged absences, please call your child’s teacher or the office at 328-2800.

Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% or more of any marking period whether excused or unexcused. (for example: 4 days in a quarter). When student attendance drops below 90%, families will receive a letter in the mail. If attendance doesn’t improve the school will reach out and develop plans with the family to support improved attendance.

1. ASISTENCIA A CLASE

   Se espera que todos los niños participen en todas las clases regulares, como educación física, salud, música, etc. Si hay alguna inquietud sobre el contenido del curso o una razón médica para que un niño sea excluido de una clase, envíe una nota al maestro del niño o comuníquese con el director.

   POLÍTICA DE ASISTENCIA
