Did You Know?ðĪ
Have you ever heard of the phrase, an Indian summer? November is when an Indian summer occurs. Why is it called an Indian summer? It is when the weather is warm beyond the summer months. However, It must take place between November 11th through November 20th. Although no one is 100% sure of its origin, some theorize that Native Americans would use the warm weather that happened in November to gather the rest of the supplies they needed before winter officially started. Others believe that the term came from European settlers from England. Another name for American Indians is Native Americans. They were the first people to settle in North America.

ðĶ Thanksgiving ðĶ
November 24
Thanksgiving Day is held on the fourth Thursday of November. Since it is a federal holiday, most schools and businesses are closed. Squanto was a Native American who was enslaved by settlers who came to North America. He managed to escape England to return to his home country, which is now known as the United States. Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to survive and live off of the land. The Wampanoag Tribe and the Pilgrims were in conflict. Some see Thanksgiving as a day of celebration with their families, while others look onto it as a day of mourning. Traditionally, many Americans gather for the Thanksgiving holiday to spend time with their families and give thanks. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and sweet potato pie are common dishes that are eaten during this time.
