New Albany Early Learning Center

September 28, 2020

Dear Families,

Students and staff are off to a great start with onsite learning at the ELC and the remote learning, Virtual Learning Program, for our virtual ELC friends. Students onsite continue to do a tremendous job with “mask up” and “wings up” for safety!

DROPPING OFF:

The most efficient and safe way for dropping off your child(ren) in the morning and midday arrival, is to use the drop off line unless your child is still having difficulty separating from you.

  • We highly recommend that you use the drop off lane versus walking your child to the door or crosswalk

  • Please stay in the car and allow a staff member to assist

  • Have your child’s mask up before exiting the car

Due to the construction in the aquatic loop one day this week, the Kindergarten pick up area will be reduced to one lane for two-way traffic. We have not been notified of the specific date for the reduction in lanes this week, so please be on alert for the lane closure at the aquatic loop.

AFTERNOON KINDERGARTEN UPDATE:

Afternoon kindergarten pick-up will have a staggered release of students to lessen the larger group size and limited parking spaces available for parents.

  • The classrooms of Moran, Galiardi, Mareco and Joseph’s class will proceed to parent-pick up near Safety Town between 3:15-3:20 pm.

  • The classrooms of Mullen, Robbins, Thornton and Bashore will proceed to parent pick up near Safety Town between 3:25-3:30 pm.

  • No changes for mid-day kindergarten pick up times at 11:20 am.

Thank you for your patience and support!

ONSITE SCHEDULE & INFORMATION

Kindergarten is currently operating in an attendance model for in-person students that includes both hybrid and “All-In” days. This model does not impact students in the Virtual Learning Program who will remain home each school day. Below is the schedule for this week for in-person kindergarten students:

Monday, September 28 - No School / Teacher Inservice Day

Tuesday September 29 - “All-In” Day (Maroon and Gold groups attend in-person school)

Wednesday, September 30 - Gold Hybrid group attends in-person school

Thursday, October 1 - Maroon Hybrid group attends in-person school

Friday, October 2 - “All-In” Day (Maroon and Gold groups attend in-person school)

The Board of Education is reviewing data to determine if the fifth week of school (beginning October 5) will take place using the “All-In” model as is currently planned. You will be notified as soon as that decision is reached. A source of information for school calendars is the district webpage at https://www.napls.us/.

On the days when the students are in school, teachers will be providing instruction to the students who are attending in-person. Teachers will not have the availability to provide real-time instructional support to students learning at home during hybrid days. Teachers will prepare work for students for their 'at home' learning day which will consist of a variety of lessons/activities depending on the grade level and subject.

Please note that preschool and VLP continue to operate each scheduled school day in an “all in” model and does not follow the hybrid model for in school and at home work.

Dear Parents:

Well, the school year is off to a great start! Thanks to everyone for making the first few weeks excellent! We so appreciate our teachers and staff being there for us as we navigate school this year. Thank you to our PTO hospitality team for providing the teachers and staff with lunch today during the staff development day! Much thanks to Jimmy John's for donating!

Thank you ALL for enjoying Chipotle and supporting our school last week! Our fundraiser raised nearly $400 for our school! Wow - that's a lot of chips and guac! Thank you to Shirck Orthodontics for supplying all of our ELC students with a water bottle and all of our teachers and staff with a mask.

Still hungry? You have another opportunity to support our school with "Donatos Dough Night!" Order pizza for delivery or pick up ALL DAY on Tuesday, October 20th and Donatos will donate 20% of the proceeds back to our school. All you have to do is mention our school when placing an order and Donatos will mark the order! The Donatos in New Albany on Johnstown Rd and Central College will both be participating.

Get ready for the Read-a-thon Fundraiser! The ELC PTO invites you and your child to participate in our annual Read-A-Thon from October 5th until October 23rd! Our goal is for every student to read, or be read, 20 books during this event. Students are eligible for prizes for reading books. We request that families and friends support the students by making a donation once the goal is achieved. All proceeds will go back to our incredible school, teachers, and staff! For more information, check out our website. Thank you to Fairy Porch Mothers, Mellow Mushroom, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Wendy's for raffle prize donations! A big thank you to Colombo Law for the in kind donation of all the student prizes!
